This week we celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) with Australian Library Information Australia (ALIA). This means that children all over Australia will listen to the same story, more or less at the same time! The book this year is Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. Apart from looking and finding, the story shows children the unusual habits of the Bowerbird and the unique colour blue that it is attracted to. The story brings up where all the blue things the bowerbird found came from, and how the rubbish we have can be disposed of responsibly. Look out for the post in your child's group for the event, and after you might like to listen to the story together here: https://vimeo.com/947204204/f4a1bdcc2b?share=copy
I love that all reading is reading! The one thing we cannot do enough in the early years is read, read, and read some more with our children. So let's encourage our children to engage with books, magazines, recipes, food list items, whatever they are interested in, but especially sharing a story together.

Tuesday 21 May the Rosella and Bluebird children enjoyed learning and exploring the relationships between living and non-living reptiles and Australian animals as they participated in the Reptile and Australian Animal Incursion. We love how this naturally aligned with this terms learning focus about God creating all animals big and small.
The children had the opportunity to observe and notice the different features of our unique Australian animals through handling and touching several of the reptiles and animals. Many children were keen to hold the python, the beautiful green tree frog, and the turtle. Other children were content to observe from a distance. The incursion also fits in with a care for country focus as we got to explore Australian animal habitats and the impact of human activity on the environment. What a blessing it was to enjoy this learning and exploration together as a kinder community.

The Possums have been excited to go to Bush Kinder. Last week they took up the binoculars and clip boards and did some observational drawings of the bush and noticed different mushrooms. The children noticed the colours and textures. One child thought it would be good to camp at Bush Kinder! This led to a discussion about what they might need if they camped, and marshmallows and sleeping bags were the most important things to take!
The Koalas have been enjoying their time at Bush Kinder. Each time they go, the children discover new things to do and different places to explore. It has been beautiful to see their enthusiasm, imagination and confidence grow at Bush Kinder. Highlights so far have included creating seesaws out of logs and rocks, constructing cubbies out of branches, and building telescopes out of sticks.
