Indonesian Coffee Van Experience

On Tuesday 28 May our Year 9 students enjoyed a walk down to the Tram Road Coffee Van owned by a local Indonesian lady named Olivia. The visit to the coffee van has become an annual experience for our elective Year 9 students studying Indonesian. Students practice their language by ordering a hot drink in Indonesian, there is time to participate in general conversation and enjoy some delicious Indonesian snacks such as dadar gulung  - rolled crepes with a sweet pineapple jam and coconut filling and bakwan jagung – fried corn and vegetable fritters.

The coffee van is owned by a local Indonesian lady named Olivia and her Mum, Mariarti is currently here in Melbourne from the Javanese town of Kudus. Mrs Mariarti and Olivia prepared delicious snacks for the students to enjoy. It was a highlight also for the students to ask questions and hear about what life was like for our hosts, growing up in Indonesia.

This current group of Year 9 students are all heading to Indonesia in Term 3 later this year so this was a small ‘taster experience’ into being immersed in Indonesian language and hospitality.
