The Year 12 VCE VM group went to Yarra Ranges Tech School to practice their teamwork skills and had a fantastic opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial spirits! They also got the chance to work in teams to win challenges involving robots and drones, which was very fun to be involved in.
As part of our Personal Development Skills curriculum, we look at leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills. When we work in groups we need to appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of ourselves and others, be kind and gracious, and be flexible to negotiate along the way. We know these soft skills are so essential in the workplace, and VCE VM is well placed to target these skills in practical ways.
The brief that students were working on was how to draw tourists to our beautiful Yarra Valley during the mid-week. In teams they had to work through understanding the problem, researching what was already available, brainstorming solutions, and choosing one idea to focus on. The students were taught problem solving techniques to get to this stage, and came up with 4 very different ideas!
We will continue to work on the final pitch at school and will be presenting our final ideas to Yarra Ranges Tech School. From here, some students may be chosen to pitch to Yarra Valley Tourism, which may lead to some real opportunities for the students.
