ISIC Dolphin Naming Competition

Dolphin #84 with their mum, Hayley in January 2022.

I have some very exciting news to share with you all!!

A rare opportunity has come up for the ambassadors this year, a chance to name one of the common dolphins in Port Phillip! This doesn't happen very often however #84 is the fourth identified third generation common dolphin calf, so it is time to give them a name.

We name some of the 153 identified common dolphins for a variety of reasons. Some are named based on their identifying features, others have been named after our beloved supporters and very occasionally there is an opportunity for ambassadors to name a dolphin.

Information on Dolphin #84 is below.

#84 was born in May of 2021 and is Hayley's second calf making it Esther's grand-calf. The sex of #84 is not currently known. They have at least one sibling that was born in February 2019.

If you would like to participate in the competition, we ask that we have one submission per school. So ambassadors, please get your heads together and submit your name idea with a reason why (maximum 25 words).

Submissions are open from now until Friday June 14th and we will announce the winner on Thursday June 20.

Good luck!
