Leadership

Is there a better feeling than receiving the Newlands newsletter from the comfort of your home on our Pupil Free Day. I didn’t think so…While you have been enjoying extra quality family time, the fantastic staff at Newlands have been using this day as an opportunity to focus on their own professional learning. Many teachers have organised visits to other schools and some attended Professional Learning sessions, while others have been building their capacity at school in their teaching teams. I would just like to thank Jill and OSHC team for providing such a fantastic service today. It was hard to drag some of the kids home from the program as they refused to leave. Well that was until they were reminded about the extra-long weekend!

Parent Teacher Interviews

Please log in to Sentral to book your interview times. All interviews will take place during the last week of the term, except for the 5/6s, who have additional slots on Friday of Week 10. Parents will meet with their child's homeroom teacher that they did not meet with the previous Parent-Teacher Interviews despite the name listed when booking.

Student-led school tours finished for the year

I would like to thank Adelynn, Marlowe, Adam, Sam, Scarlett and Addison for their hard work and commitment in ensuring our school tours were a success. After every tour, the school has received so many emails from families saying how impressed they were with not only the student’s knowledge about the school, but their organisation and confidence in speaking in front of up to 50 unfamiliar faces. As a part of the school tours, families are taken around the school to see the facilities and classrooms, where parents have the opportunity to ask further questions. I’d like to also thank and congratulate Freddie, Felix, Asha and Paxton for representing our school values so well to these families.  The school will no longer be accepting any more enrolments from families outside of the zone.

3/4 Inquiry

I had the pleasure of joining Nerida and a group of 3/4s as they continue their inquiry into improving our school. The focus was about our local environment and how we can ensure our grounds are kept clean, as well as brainstorming how do we ensure our families are reducing the amount of packaging and waste that is coming into our school. I don’t want to give away too much information but if their presentations are anything to go by, there will be some dramatic improvements to the school processes and expectations over the coming months. I want to thank Nerida for leading such an incredible program with the students. I know our students are always so excited when it is their turn with Nerida.

1/2 Reading

Pia, Enid, Carolina & Mila were teaching me about the short and long ‘oo’ phoneme before reading me a story. All four of them confidently read aloud and talked about the story with me. A big shout out to Kiriliefor having the time of her life reading with the 1/2s. This is timely thank you to all the families that are joining with our literacy program to read with our students. The teachers and students really appreciate you giving up your time to spend quality time in the classroom. I also want to mention the great reading by Tex while using Raz Kids. The inflections were perfecto!

Working Bee

Our favourite Sunday termly event is on next week. On the 16th of June we are calling for your help as we have a range of painting, planting, mulching and moving to do. We don’t care if you are a green thumb or just available out to help. The fabulous Buildings & Grounds committee appreciate all and are welcoming everyone with open arms and an OHS Safety intro. If you would like more information please see Kristy, Tim, Scott, Andrew or Luke.

Colour Run

It would be rude not to mention the successful Colour Run event last week. The incredible PFA has helped our community raise over $37 207! We would once again like to thank our families for helping the school raise so much money, the students for visiting their neighbours with donation tins and all the families that were helping with distributing all the colours over our students. It was a really fun day and we look forward to doing more events like these in the future.

We will see you on Tuesday!

Thanks, Luke
