3/4 News

We have had a busy fortnight in 3/4! There is a lot to reflect on and still many more exciting things to come! Enjoy reading about our learning.
Writing/Maths/Inquiry
For the last two weeks students have been researching their chosen endangered animal to assist them to write a non-fiction narrative. They have also explored and started their own 'pattern pages' and sizzling starts. This has connected to Inquiry work where students are looking at human impact on the environment and the threats that endangered animals face. As part of their Inquiry showcase, students will create a campaign to help raise awareness about their chosen endangered animal.
In Maths, 3/4's have been mapping and creating the perfect habitat for their endangered animal. Students must include three main features of a map which includes a compass rose, a key/legend and a scale.
Inquiry - Barmah National Forest & Kyabram Zoo Excursion
3/4's had some beautiful weather for their excursion out in Barmah Forest. Our guides Greta and Hilda were very knowledgeable about our local land and shared some interesting information about:
- Erosion
- Flora & Fauna
- Things in the National Park
- Human Impact – what activities do people do in the National Park
- Connections to First Peoples of Australia.
Lifecycles
3/4's have also been learning about lifecycles and were lucky enough to receive their own chrysalis. Each day they have been observing any changes and the different stages in the Monarch Butterfly's lifecycle.
Kids Helpline Session - 7th of May
Students enjoyed learning about some new coping strategies, digital safety and citizenship and emotional literacy through the virtual Kids Helpline session. Tabitha was the session leader and she helped students understand how they can identify online dangers, listen to their gut and to stay safe when online.
Mother's Day Celebrations
We hope that all the amazing Mums/Special person's of our 3/4's were able to enjoy a special Mother's day. Students had been busy making lots of special gifts for their Mum's/Special Person, and we were very impressed with the creativity that was produced. We hope you loved receiving them!
There was a change of plans for our Mother's Day event at school, but that didn't stop the students from making it a special day. Lots of cleaning took place to make sure it was ready for our guests.
Thank you to those who were able to attend our Mother's Day event. We loved celebrating you!
Gardening with Jayde
Our 3/4's love having the opportunity to help Jayde out in the garden!
Coming up...
On Monday (20th of May), we will be heading to Echuca College to visit their STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths). There is no cost for this visit however, we do require your consent on Compass for students to attend.
Please also keep an eye out on Compass for future updates, as we are planning some other fun virtual sessions.
Have a great weekend!
