Weather Stations
In one week, the Grade 5/6's have made weather stations as part of our Inquiry unit to gather our local weather data. We made a wind vain, rain guage, barometer, and anemometer. Here is what they are used for and why; the wind vain is used so you know what way the wind is blowing from (North, South, East, West and everything in between). People, like farmers need to know the direction of the wind when they are burning off. The next thing we made was a rain gauge. A rain gauge is used to see how much rain has poured in a container over a certain amount of time. Some people need to know how much it has rained because it is possible there could be floods. Then we made a barometer. The barometer is used to measure the air pressure. If the balloon blows up, it is high pressure and if the balloon sucks in, then it is low air pressure. We need to know air pressure to know if it is going to be hot or cold. Last we made an anemometer. This is used to measure the wind speed. We set a timer for one minute and count how many turns it makes in this minute. Our anemometers didn't work very well. We really appreciate that we got to make these fun and educational activities.

Whole School STEM Day
On Thursday, we were lucky enough to be able to participate in a whole school STEM day. We had a whole day of fun that included Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The activities we did, consisted of making houses that had to withstand the big bad wolf (a hairdryer), playdough animals that had to camouflage, making a bridge to hold ten animals, making a boat that floats from things we found outside, making the highest paper cup tower and learning about static electricity with balloons. This day was really enjoyable and I think everyone had fun.

Campaspe Cross Country
On Friday, twenty three Grade 5/6 and 3/4 students went to represent our school in the Campaspe Cross Country in Moama. We had to race against other schools from the Campaspe region. I came 57th out of about 100 students in my age range. We raced against all schools in Echuca, Elmore and Rochester. The Grade 5/6 students ran 3 kilometres and the 3/4 students ran 2 kilometres. I found the course pretty hard because we had to run in gravel and dirt.

Community News - GTS Visits
Kayden, Luca, Brax and Kane went to GTS to help Cat and Paige unload all of the deliveries and they also got hot chocolates and rocky road! It was so good. Both Kayden and Luca got to serve the customers, stack shelves, load gates into their docs and water the plants. Kayden, Luca and Pip went out the back to scan all the things that Cat, Pip and Paige ordered. After that they all had to stack the shelves and some of them were really hard to find because they had nothing on them. It was really fun.

5/6 General News and Reminders
As the weather cools and jumpers come back, we encourage all students to label their jumpers with their names so we can return them easily if they are left somewhere.
Please encourage your student to wear school uniform, including their school jumpers as the Grade 5/6 students are the leaders of our school and set an example for the rest of the school. We discourage footy shorts.
We have noticed a lot of our Grade 5/6 students coming to school with and chewing gum throughout the day. Please note that chewing gum is not permitted while at school.
A friendly reminder for all of our Year 6 families to return the Year 6 to 7 placement information packs given out a week ago, back to school as soon as possible. This indicates the high school of choice for next year for your child. If you are unsure, we encourage you to indicate the high school you are leaning to and if this changes, let us know as soon as possible. This helps us to facilitate the transition process and support your child throughout this process.
