Student Leadership

A fortnight ago, all of our Year 12 captains were involved in a Leadership development workshop run by Unleashing Personal Potential. The first half of the interactive workshop focused on what leadership is all about. Leading everyday through service, action and example. Students were reminded that leadership is a responsibility, not a reward.
Later on, the student leadership team spent some time generating ideas for a school project. Some fantastic ideas for whole school community events were shared but the vote went to focussing our energy on bringing back the Highvale House Cup! We are aiming for this to take place at the end of Term 3.
House Update
Last term students were asked to put forward suggestions for our new school House names. After much deliberation, the chosen theme was: Indigenous names of animals.
Students can have their say in the final House names by putting in their vote and choosing their favourite 4 names. Students should have received an email with a link to vote or have voted during focus group.
There is also an opportunity for students to be involved in the design of the House mascots. Any student that would like to be involved in this process should put forward their interest on the voting form. Once the House names are finalised, we will organise a time for an Aboriginal artist to come to Highvale to guide these students in their designs.
Child Development
Last week our Year 9/10 Child Development class visited a prep class from Highvale Primary in order to gain an understanding of children’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. Our class ran a number of engaging activities including drawing, memory games, games with music, playdoh, Lego and more. It proved to be a very fun, engaging and positive experience for all involved.
