School Council Meeting  21/05/2024

School Council met again last week and there were a couple of aspects of the meeting that made it a bit of a special meeting.

Firstly, and most interestingly for the Council members, Jarvis and Isla came along to update us on the work that the Junior School Councilors have been doing representing the students and the school community generally. A highlight was hearing about the opportunity for Jarvis to meet with the Mayor of Hobsons Bay Council and update him on what the Willy kids think should be some priorities for that Council. Jarvis’ presentation was so impressive to School Council, it is hard to imagine he wouldn’t have had the Mayor’s full attention.

This is the second meeting in a row that we have had one of the School Captains come along and update the Council. It gives the Council great insight into what is important for the Willy kids when we are making our decisions but, more importantly, it gives us such joy and pride to see the amazing leaders that our school is helping to develop. We all look forward to continuing to hear from the students over the rest of the year.

The second part of the evening was dedicated to the School’s Annual Public Reporting meeting, which is a bit like an Annual General Meeting. Thank you to the parents that came along to the meeting, the main purpose of which is for the Council to formally adopt the School’s Annual Report. For those that haven’t read the Annual Report, it is a really important (and hopefully, interesting) document that sets out some of the amazing achievements for the School last year, as well as information on the School’s academic and financial performance.

After all of that, we were left to cover off the important discussions that the Council has every month on matters such as finance, plans for the School’s buildings and grounds and any policies that need to be considered.
