Careers Update
The year is moving quickly for our Year 12 students and VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) applications will be opening soon. Year 12 careers interviews will begin on August 1, and they will have a briefing on the process of applying to university prior to this date in their wellbeing classes. The main dates for Year 12 are summarised below:
Year 10 work experience
Our Year 10 students are taking part in work experience from Monday August 5 to Friday August 9 this year. Many of them are struggling to find placements and we are hoping there might be some people in our school community that might be able to offer a student a placement for the week.
The students have a range of interests, so we are open to any offers of placement. If you think you might be able to help, can you please reach out to Cath Freney Careers Counsellor – cfreney@shelford.vic.edu.au. Your assistance would be appreciated.
Year 10 Morrisby Profile Testing
Our Year 10 students recently completed their Morrisby Profile testing and received a report that highlighted their career interests, aptitudes, workstyle, and personality. It also provided some suggestions of careers that they may be well suited to. The students enjoyed reading their results and learning more about themselves.
Mrs Freney will provide a 30-minute careers interview for each year 10 student which will focus on giving more feedback in relation to their Morrisby profile but also counselling students in relation to VCE subject selection. These will begin on at the end of this term and continue into Term 3.
Opportunities for students
There continues to be some great opportunities offered to students in coming months along with an information session on ‘Studying in the USA’.
Tech and Trades Experience Day
RMIT will host a free, hands-on Tech and Trades Experience Day in the July school holidays.
Tailored for students in Years 10, 11, and 12, along with their parents and guardians, this event promises an immersive day of exploration. Attendees will get to uncover their passions, gain valuable insights, and pave the way for a future filled with endless possibilities.

Veteran Family Pathway (VEP)
ACU is committed to supporting both veterans and their families accessing tertiary education. The VEP – family pathway recognises the challenges military families may face because of service.
Often for the family members of ADF (Australian Defence Force) personnel there can be significant barriers when pursuing educational/employment goals due to service commitments such as posting cycles, deployments and/or locality. This pathway aims to provide recognition of these challenges and sacrifices by giving the opportunity to access a range of study options, increasing employability and opening the door to meaningful employment.
This entry pathway is available to any partner, spouse, or child over the age of 18 of current/previous serving ADF personnel.
Find out more at Veteran Family Pathway (VEP) to ACU.
