Being Brave!

After learning about how Bug was brave and tried something new, we had a try at tasting something new and unusual... lemons from Felix's tree! It was all smiles and giggles from the students who dared to try, but our faces showed just how sour they really were.

Choose your own learning tools

Foundation/1 have been learning about addition, subtraction and division by using a variety to tools. We are very lucky at Newham to have quite an extensive numeracy resource library where students can exercise agency and choose the learning tool that fits their learning style and the problem that they are working on. Number lines and counters are very popular, and we also like using bundles, counters, hundreds charts and tens frames. All these tools help us build on the Big Idea in Mathematics: Trusting the Count.

Measuring length using uniform units

2/3/4s have been learning how to use different items to measure the lengths of different items and compared them with each other. They discussed the need for making them line up straight with no gaps between each item.

Kitchen Garden

Grade 2/3/4 had fun making vegetarian sausage rolls, garden salad and pumpkins scones with the lovely Jo last week and our beautiful parent helpers. The food was a hit, and the kids did a great job of all the stages of preparing, eating and cleaning up afterwards.
