Winter Sleep Out

❄️🌙⛺️WINTER SLEEP OUT⛺️🌙❄️“Solidarity we are part of one human family, and we have a responsibility to help each person, to achieve their potential.”

The students have identified an issue that they would like to do something about. The issue that stood out to them was homelessness. There are so many people struggling and living in poverty all around the world and even in our community here in Cobram.

The students want to end poverty in Cobram and help people who are homeless.

We are inviting Year 5 and 6 students to participate in a Winter Sleep Out.

Date: Friday 31st May

Time: 7:30pm to 6:30am

There will be a $5 entry fee.

The aim of this event is to spend the night experiencing what it is like to be homeless. All of the money will be donated to homeless people in Cobram. We have chosen to support Cobram Community House because they are already helping people who are homeless everyday by providing food, toiletries and bedding.

Students will need to bring:

• A sleeping bag, swag or mattress

• Blanket

• Pillow

• WARM clothing

• A water bottle

• Sleep mask (optional)

NO TECHNOLOGY, TORCHES OR FOOD IS ALLOWED.

FIRE Carriers

Last week we held our first FIRE (Friends Igniting in Reconciliation through Education) Carrier meeting to discuss their roles and actions moving forward for 2024.  To be a FIRE Carrier is to exercise an important leadership role in the school community. FIRE carriers are students and teachers that share a passion for learning about Aboriginal culture and history and are committed to sharing this knowledge and promoting reconciliation within and beyond the school community.

The FIRE Carrier's first role for 2024 was leading and sharing the importance of National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week.  During assembly last week the Year 3 students led prayer informing the whole school about National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week.

The FIRE Carrier's will continue to work with Mrs O'Sullivan, Mr Harding and Mrs Sefton on their next event which will be NAIDOC week in Term three.
