The Next Fortnight of Learning
Literacy
Over the next two weeks in Literacy students will continue to draft their non-fiction texts using a 'Single Paragraph Outline'. Students will utilise a rubric to self-asses their own writing. This will allow them to determine areas where they can continue to refine and level up with work. They will apply their understanding of text features (sub-headings, captions, diagrams) to effectively organise and communicate their researched topics including the diet, location and appearance of their chosen animals.
Maths
Over the next two weeks as part of our maths learning students will be exploring multiplication and repeated addition using arrays. They will also have the opportunity to practise using effective strategies for solving multiplication problems such as the area and lattice method.
Students will explore location and position in the coming weeks. Students will be challenged to create informal maps with directional language to describe a route or path to a given location. This will incorporate their understanding of compass directions to locate places on a map. Students will ensure their maps include the necessary BOLTS (border, orientation, legend, title, scale) elements,
Inquiry
This term in Inquiry students will continue to identify the key values of Australian democracy and features of the electoral process. They will learn about the responsibilities of the three levels of government and equal rights in Australia. Unpacking the areas of progress throughout history which have contributed to improving inequalities for different groups of Australians.
Wellbeing
In the coming weeks students will be investigating the impact of peer and cultural influences on personal identity. Students will consider how social and societal pressures can reinforce stereotypes. They will be unpacking the ways in which our emotions and behaviours influence their overall sense of well-being and belong

Mayor Nathan Conroy Visit
Last week we were very lucky to have our local mayor, Nathan Conroy visit our Year 5 students to talk about his role in the community. This visit linked closely with what our students have been learning this term in Inquiry. Students had the chance to ask questions and participate in a very engaging session.
