Connect: Year 4

The Next Fortnight of Learning

Literacy

 Reading and Writing

Students will use the knowledge again over the past use weeks to answer text-dependent questions such as 'How does the structure of the text help in conveying the main message of the text?'. They are very excited to write an information report on their chosen topic. We can not wait to read them.

Spelling

The students will continue to work on the following spelling rule. They will be analysing writing and making corrections where needed regarding the rule.

Vocabulary words

Maths

Fractions will continue over the next couple of weeks. The students will also compare, sort and justify properties of 2D and 3D shapes. They will apply this knowledge into problem solving tasks.

Inquiry

Over the next few weeks students will begin to develop their very own artificial island. They will need to consider which climate zone to build their island, the best natural environment to grow, that will survive on their island and of cause the design of their island. We look forward to see what they create.

Wellbeing

Our students will be tracking their emotions throughout a day and analysing times where they may have benefitted from using a particular strategy to ensure they make their way back to being 'Ready to Learn'. They will further investigate a variety of scenarios and decide together how to move through each scenario in appropriate ways, the strategies that can be used and the people they can seek help from if needed.

Important Notes

Soccer Pitch

The soccer pitch is a popular place for our Grade 4 students and to ensure each and every one has a successful recess and lunch we have created a timetable. This timetable allows students to play with a variety of different friends and encourages them to seek alternative play areas and foster positive friendships. The students have been shown this timetable and we are very proud of the mature way they have approach this change. Although at times there is an ES staff member on the soccer pitch before school, we highly encourage all students to play elsewhere as the pitch is very muddy and wet in the mornings.

Welcome

A Celebration of Learning

STEAM

The students were very excited on Wednesday to showcase their amazing tracks, designed and built in STEAM. They excellently explained the purpose of the tracks to their classroom teachers, which was to create a course for a robot to navigate. The students then had to code their robot to safely and successfully traverse their track.
