Connect : Year 3
June 2024
It's officially Winter! Melbourne seems to have gotten the message and brought with it wet and windy conditions! Here are some reminders for the fortnight ahead:
Date | Event |
---|---|
Monday 24th June | Parent Teacher Conferences - all day This is also a Curriculum Day! |
Wednesday 26th June | Clean up Australia Day |
Thursday 27th June | Hot Dog Day |
Friday 28th June | Final Day of Term 2 - dismissal at 2:30pm |
Parent/Teacher Conferences: You can now book a parent/teacher conference online through our Sentral platform. If you're having trouble - please contact the office for assistance. This is a great time to see where your child is at, ask any questions and have a general chat about your child! We look forward to seeing you on Monday the 24th of June!
Literacy: Over the past fortnight we have been exploring our 'National simultaneous storytime book' called Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. This gorgeous text is rich with language and has a beautiful story. The students have been completing a range of activities from reading facts files, exploring interesting words to finally completing a beautiful artwork which is featured on the walls in the BER building. Check out a few below and if you spot the book in the shops, take a peek! It is lovely!
Numeracy: After a busy assessment period, the students wrapped up their exploration of time and have now started to fine tune their addition and subtraction skills. We have been working on mental strategies and being able to talk about how we solve problems rather than jumping straight to the answer. We will be finishing the term by continuing to work on all operations and revising some content we think is important to cover.
Inquiry: We have ALMOST finished our lapbook templates with our endandered Australian animal facts. The students have been working on their presentation and learning about what makes a stand out final copy! We can't wait to showcase these during our Parent Teacher conferences.
Wellbeing: This week we have had a close look at the catastrophe scale and what this means when we encounter problems. We looked at the difference between a small, medium and big problem and categorised some examples by giving them numbers. It was very interesting to note how different problems were a big deal to some children but not for others. We discussed this and we will continue to look at this for the remainder of the term.
We have also finalised our 'Ready to Learn' plans. The next step will be recording these on a smaller book mark so they are more accessible for the students. We will also go over these during our Parent Teacher conferences.
We thought we would tag one of our favourite Number Fluency websites. The students can also access this at home and it is a great way to practise a range of numeracy skills. Click on the picture below to check out some fun Maths revision!
Swimming: Our Grade 3's blew us away during our swimming week! All of the teachers and support staff were so thrilled with the resilience, respect and responsibility shown during all of their lessons. Some skills were new to many of the students and as the week wore on it was wonderful to watch their confidence grow. We would like to extend our thanks to all the families for helping your child be super organised. It was a mammoth effort for the week! Thankyou!
