From the Head of Sport
Head of Sport Report
This week I would like to congratulate all our students on meeting their commitments both at training and games. Being part of a sporting team means commitment both on and off the field, not only at training but also in the example that you set for others.
Over the past weekend some of our BMGS player’s encountered unsportsmanlike behaviour from the opposition and I am pleased to say that each of these players handled the situations in a mature and sportsmanlike manner. You have certainly made your school proud.
Please remember if you have any issues regarding sport that you come and see me at my office. We want your sporting experience one that creates memories that you can look back on long after you leave Blue Mountains Grammar.
Congratulations
Each fortnight I would like to acknowledge sporting achievements both inside and outside school. Please email me if you are doing something great in sport so we can celebrate your achievements.
Basketball
This week Emily Weber competed as a member of the ISA Open Girls Basketball team at the NSWCIS Championships. The competition was certainly high and it was great to watch Emily step up and contribute to the success of her team. Emily’s skill in defence allowed ISA to gain valuable turnovers throughout all of the games. The ISA team were NSWCIS Premiers. Congratulations Emily and all the best for the rest of your rep season.
Athletics
Zara Nicholas is one of our quiet achievers and has achieved some outstanding results over the past season. She competed at the NSW Country Championships for U17 Women where she gained 3rd place in the 100m hurdles, 1st in long jump, equal 1st in high jump and 2nd in discus.
Following on from these great results Zara competed at the ACT U17 Women's Combined Events coming 2nd in the Heptathlon. She also gained 2nd at the NSW Little Athletics U17 Women Combined Events Heptathlon.
These achievements saw Zara qualify to compete in the U17 Women’s Heptathlon at the Australian Athletics Championships. Zara gained 4th place which saw her meet the 2025 national qualifying standards for U18, U20 and Open heptathlon.
Zara is to be congratulated on an amazing season and we wish her all the best on her athletics pathway.

Rugby
Blue Mountains Grammar school has continued with their entry in the ISA competition as a member of the Redlands/SACS/BMGS Barbarian teams.
Over the past two weeks I have had the opportunity to travel with the BMGS boys who form part of these teams and I have been very impressed with their ability to integrate themselves into the teams I each age group. The BMGS players make good contributions to the games all round and are responsible for a number of the tries across all the games.
11th May
Unfortunately this week the 16’s and Firsts had a washout, however the 13’s had the opportunity to play Shore. Whilst the boys went down 32-24 they had a great first half holding Shore to 24-0. The second half say fitness get the better of the team and Shore came back to take the win.
The 14’s boys had a great game against Scot’s College E with the BMGS players out in full force and showing their skill. The Barbarians took the game 47-0. This bodes well for the team when they commence the ISA season.
18th May
All teams had the opportunity to play this weekend. The 14’s travelling to St Augustine’s where they had an outstanding performance in an 11 a side game to start. With Barbarians dominating the game, St Augustine’s increased their side to 15 however they were no match for our boys who took home the win with a final score of 41-19.
All our other players went to Macquarie Uni for their games. The 13’s played 10 a side against Barker. We welcomed Ezekiel Mamo for his first game this week where he showed he will be an asset to the team scoring 3 tries. The team ended up with a 46-29 victory.
The 16 boys came up against a very tough Joey’s team and as a result spent a lot of time in defence. Despite their efforts the boys went down 26-5. Well done to the BMGS boys who did not give up for the length of the game.
The Firsts boys ran out in the SACS jerseys last weekend and were a force to be reckoned with. The Barbarians dominated the majority of the game defeating Joey’s 21-5.
This weekend we are back at Macquarie Uni again and I will be looking for players to volunteer to run the line for the games involving BMGS players.
There are still opportunities available for any players who have not signed up for the season. Training is on Tuesday afternoons for all players. Come and see me if you are interested.

Hockey - Girls Firsts Match Report, BMGS Vs Barker College
The pitch was cold and filled with excitement as the firsts hockey girls stepped onto the field at Barker, Hornsby. In a riveting half with hits that cleared the field from Captain Grey right down to inner Angie in perfect positioning, sadly Grammar ended the half 1 down to the Barker team, who scored in the last ten seconds of the half! We started with a bang in the second half, with the game speeding up and the mid fielders working hard to keep the ball up the other end of the field on the offensive. With some beautiful channeling from Sierra and Maggie and clean traps from Ellie, there were roughly 7 or 8 fantastic shots on goal from Ellie and Natalie, aided by Kerry on post.
Unfortunately, Barker’s defence fended us off, but due to stunning work from Eladie in her first game of the season only the first goal went in. In a fluid and speedy game, Grammar played as a team in a fun filled and quick second half, and ultimately lost 1- 0 to Barker.
Thanks to the communication, collaboration and humour on pitch, Grammar had a blast in Hornsby, and we’d all like to thank Barker for this smashing game.

UTA100, Ultra-Trail Marathon
Congratulations to Jett Fendall (Graduate 2023) on an outstanding performance, finishing third in the 18-19 age category at the UTA100 Ultra-Trail Marathon 16-19 May.
Jett was surrounded by a fabulous crew of family, friends, and the BMGS community. An amazing support team cheered him on along the trails, clanged cowbells, refueled him at the checkpoints, and that raucous crowd at the finish line !
The local UTA100 Ultra Marathon event is a 100-kilometre course running along cliff tops, through lush valleys, across picturesque ridges, and up to the finish line at Scenic World.
An amazing achievement, Jett, you crushed it!
