From the Principal

To the Blue Mountains Grammar School Community,

As many of you will be aware, Blue Mountains Grammar School was approached in January this year to see if we could host the New South Wales Blues as a training venue for their 2024 State of Origin campaign. In partnership with the Fairmont Resort, the opportunity to bring The Blues to the Mountains is unique, and the benefits to ours and the wider community are clearly positive.

We have had significant improvements to our school fields over the past few months, with the support of the Fairmont Resort and New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL). The new NRL standard posts were installed yesterday, and the field was marked ready for the team's arrival next week. These upgrades have been funded outside the school as a thank you for using our grounds and will no doubt benefit not just the team but also our students and staff for many years to come. The field is now considered to be at NRL quality.

While hosting the NSW team will bring some changes to our usual routines, we want to reassure you that we will minimise any disruptions. Having the team train right here at BMGS is a fantastic opportunity for our school community, and we're doing everything we can to ensure it's a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone. We will have to reschedule some classes and close some sections for periods of approximately two hours, but the energy and excitement of the students indicate to us that this is worth actioning.

The schedule for the team's time at the school is determined by the NSWRL officials during their time there. We do know that at the first camp, given its importance to getting the series off to an ideal start, access to the team and the training facility will be limited. As team hosts, we intend to demonstrate understanding and appropriate etiquette in our movements around the school. However, we are working with the NSW team to arrange future opportunities for our students and the broader community to interact with the players. These interactions will be an excellent chance for everyone to look closely at professional sportsmanship.

Please note that the NSW team will bring their own media and security teams. Therefore, access to certain areas will be limited and controlled by their staff. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we accommodate these arrangements.

We'll keep you updated as plans develop. We look forward to the benefits and exciting experiences this partnership will bring our community.

Thank you for your support and enthusiasm. Let's embrace this incredible opportunity at BMGS!

Go the Blues!!!

Warm regards,

Steven Coote
