The BIG WEEKEND

Ms McGLoin

Arts & Technology Learning Specialist

Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 saw our annual BIG WEEKEND of intensive, all-day rehearsals for our college production.

This year we rocked out on stage as we blocked scenes, learned the choreography and sang at the top of our lungs to the classics that only ‘Rock of Ages’ supplies. As we aim to grow in all that we do – the BIG WEEKEND was strengthened by going overnight. That’s right – the cast and production team rehearsed and developed their team building and comradery skills for 30 hours over the weekend.

Kat Mizzi guided the students through the vocal compositions, building harmonies and key changes from ballads to mashups, whilst Ms McGloin directed the characterisation, choreography and blocking with a whole lot of air guitar.

Highlights included a popcorn and hot chocolate movie night, random dance offs, and the annual chocolate game which never fails to bring forth the competitive side of the cast. Don’t be fooled, it was clear that despite the giggling laughter, when it comes to chocolate- they are in it to win!

As we often see, rehearsals bring out the best in our students and the 2024 BIG WEEKEND was no different. The production cast continued to show up and support each other. They worked together running lines and choreography, cleaning up, washing dishes, making cups of tea for each other and cheering as each character stepped into the power of their inner rock gods. It was a mammoth weekend, but they did it, they didn’t stop believing and are now on their way to building this city of ROCK AND ROLL!
