Career & Pathways News

It’s been an extremely busy term in the Career & Pathways realm at Wantirna College!

Year 10

Our Year 10s started the term with their Uni and TAFE visits then got straight into subject selection and choosing their VCE program.  For some students, this involved a process of applying to do an “SBAT” over the next two years – a School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship.  Early next term, these students will be meeting with Headstart who will help them in finding an employer to begin their apprenticeship or traineeship with, to set them up for their careers.  We are very excited to follow along the journey of these students over the next couple of years.

Year 11

We enjoyed conversations with students in Year 11 as they weighed up their options for the final year of their schooling.  For some, this included consideration of a “CHES” subject – university subjects offered by the Centre of Higher Education Studies.  This is a great opportunity for students who are passionate about a particular area of study and feel prepared to study at a tertiary level, whilst still contributing their work toward their ATAR and their ultimate University course!

Year 12

For Year 12s, Term 3 is the most important time for students to consider their post-secondary options. We have met with many students throughout the term and helped them consider different pathways and institutions, as well as assisting with their Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) and Scholarships applications.

A reminder for students that an application and payment needs to be submitted by Thursday 28 of September at 5pm.  As this date falls in the holidays, it’s important that students complete this as soon as possible.  If any students miss this deadline, they can still apply, however they will incur a significant additional charge.

Final SEAS & Scholarships applications are due Friday 6 of October at 5pm.  For any students applying, please gather your required information including Statement of Support from a “responsible person” over the holidays.

We look forward to meeting with many more students in Term 4 to help them consider their options for the remainder of their schooling and their future pathways!

Year 12 – Applying for Tertiary Education (VTAC)

VTAC is now open for students to register and submit an application.  We advise students to submit their preferences and pay the $55 fee by the end of Term 3, Fri 15 September.  The actual cut-off date is 5pm Thu 28 September.

Students are still able to change their preferences until 4pm Wed 13 December and throughout the Change of Preference periods that follow.

Year 12 – VTAC & SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme)

The Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) is the VTAC special consideration application for circumstances that have made it hard for you to do your best at study.

There are 4 different SEAS categories, and you can apply for as many as you feel are relevant to your circumstances.

It's best to get started early, as most categories require additional evidence about the circumstances. Read below for information about the requirements for each category!

We strongly recommend ALL students applying for tertiary study through VTAC submit a SEAS application – all students are eligible to apply for Category 1.

For students who will be submitting supporting documentation, students should submit this on VTAC by 5pm Fri 15 September, if they wish for VTAC to review the documentation.  Final cut-off date for SEAS applications and submission of documentation is 5pm Fri 6 October.
