Learning & Teaching

Term 3 has been a productive and very busy term with many notable events and activities. Here are a few Learning and Teaching Highlights

Semester 1 Reports -  Our Year 7-10 Semester Reports were released on Maestro this week, which was an exciting development. Instructions on how to log in to Maestro are attached and we encourage you to do so.

New Maestro Student Dashboards - Log on and check out the new Data Dashboards which give students and parents access to a range of important data and information about each student's learning progress and engagement. I encourage all parents and students to log into Maestro. Please look at the Infographic attached to help you interpret the information displayed in the dashboard.

NAPLAN results came out this term showing improvement in all areas of NAPLAN in Year 9. Kevin has posted details about this data in previous Newsletters. I especially thank the dedicated teaching staff.

In our Respectful Relationship work we have celebrated some whole school events such as, Wear it Purple Day, R U OK Day and the International Day Against Bullying and Violence

In addition, we have successfully run Consent Education presentations and workshops from Year 7 to 10. This includes the Year 9 and 10 Boys and Girls workshop on sexual harassment and Consent presentation this week. Here is a snap of the survey results from the girls and boys in response to several questions related to Sexual Harassment:

Presenting at the Victorian Secondary School Principal's Associations (VASSP) Conference

In late August, Carrie Wallis and I were asked to Co-present with Associate Professor Mark Rickinson (Monash University) at the annual two-day VASSP conference. We presented on our journey with Developmental Assessment, particularly the use of Developmental Rubrics as the foundation of learning and teaching at the College. It was a real privilege and the feedback from attendees was very positive. As a result, we continue to have requests from schools to visit and learn more about what we do differently at the College, and the success (and challenges) we are having in this space. We have also been invited to present at another conference next term.

The Disability Inclusion Program (DIP) continues to have exceptional success in securing Disability Inclusion funding for many of our students. The new DIP is very complex, however Kylie Rackham and the team have been so successful that other schools continue to visit our College to learn how to navigate the process from the team.  This week, Cheltenham College and Kew High School leaders were onsite.

Parent Involvement

The Wantirna College Policy and Education Committee (CPEC) is a Subcommittee of College Council that meets twice a term. The committee shares and discusses new policies to get feedback from the parent perspective. We also share and discuss a range of teaching and learning initiatives with parents for their input and clarification.

We are always looking for new members so if you are interested in being part of our wonderful CPEC committee, please get in contact with me. It's a great opportunity to get involved and you do not need to be a member of College Council to be a part of this committee.

CPEC meetings are held in the Conference room at 5pm. Here are the Term 4 meeting dates:

  • Tuesday 10 October
  • Tuesday 14 November
