With the upcoming VCE period, the library is being used for exams and there will be interruptions to accessing the library until Wednesday 15 November. This includes certain lunchtimes and after school. Students will be notified on Compass of these times so that they can plan accordingly.
We have an interesting selection of Pink-covered fiction and non-fiction books on display in the library foyer to promote Breast Cancer Awareness month in October. Multiple studies about reading for pleasure have reported positive health outcomes such as mental health and stress reduction. A recent article in Science Daily, goes a step further by linking reading with elevated cognitive performance in adolescence.
“Reading isn’t just a pleasurable experience – it’s widely accepted that it inspires thinking and creativity, increases empathy and reduces stress. But on top of this, we found significant evidence that it’s linked to important developmental factors in children, improving their cognition, mental health, and brain structure, which are cornerstones for future learning and well-being.”

VCE students of Mathematics 3 & 4 units who require reference notes bound for the upcoming VCE exams are welcome to visit the library and ask library staff to bind their items. Bound Reference
Our first meeting for Term 4 was held last Thursday with students enthusiastic to share with each other their holiday reads and book purchases. The last Book Club meeting to be held in Term 4 will be held on Thursday 30 November to discuss the book club titles chosen. The new titles, chosen by students are a mystery novel Retro by Sofía Lapuente and Jarrod Shusterman and Sorcery of Thorns a fantasy novel by Margaret Rogerson.
Students are welcome to drop by the library or email library@mgsc.vic.edu.au to add their name to the Book Club mailing list.
There are games, colouring and Lego available for students during recess and lunch times. Students have been creating a ‘Lego world’ over the past two weeks, which looks incredible and has completely covered one table.
