Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Once again Grandparents Day made a claim for one of the best day’s on our school calendar! A very big thank you to the hundreds of grandparents who made the effort to come and see their grandchildren at school last Friday. Thank you to our Grade 6 “Tour Guides”, to David Stewart and his students who demonstrated their musical skills on the piano and to all staff and students who made the day so memorable.

Personally, I feel very grateful to now be a grandparent, not everyone gets this amazing privilege.

CHILD SAFETY

Sacred Heart prioritises the safety of our students above all else. We endeavour to act proactively in this field by offering programs such as the Bravehearts Child Safety Program, which visited our school last week.

Hopefully this program provides parents the opportunities to talk with their children about this important matter.

Additionally all visitors and volunteers in our school are asked to provide evidence of a Working With Children check. This is a very handy card to keep up to date when you have children in primary school and want to be involved in your child/ren’s school and sporting activities.

A reminder that all helpers for the Foundation Swimming Program being run this term need to present a current “Working With Children” card to the school office in order to assist with this program. The program cannot run without the assistance of parents so, if you don’t have a check, please get one and bring it into the school office.

STOMP Dance Company at Sacred Heart

We are looking forward to hosting the Stomp Dance Company at Sacred Heart.  Stomp are an innovative, fun and energetic performing arts group who will be working alongside our children and teachers over 4 weeks beginning on October 19th.  In the past we have had a one day taste of their sessions, which have been met with much enthusiasm, and so we are excited about having them for five days across 4 weeks.  Our workshops with  Stomp will culminate in a whole school performance for parents during the afternoon of Friday November 10th.  Save the date!

ALL SAINTS DAY AND MISSION DAY

Our school is looking forward to celebrating All Saints Day and enjoying our Mission Day Fete on THURSDAY November 2nd.

This is an important day in the life of our school, where we celebrate Mass and reflect on and pray for those members of our families and community who are no longer with us and then focus on raising money via our fete for those less fortunate than ourselves. Again - Mark this date in your calendar.

National Assessment Program

This year, during October, the National Assessment Program is conducting a test for Civics and Citizenship in a sample of schools.

This online test aims to inform schools, education ministers and the community about the levels of achievement in civics and citizenship literacy among a sample of Year 6 and Year 10 students across Australia, with the aim of improving teaching and learning.

Mrs Garner’s Year 6 class have been selected to participate in this trial test that will cover knowledge and understanding of Australia’s system of government and civic life which the year sixes  have been working on in their latest inquiry.  The test will take place next Wednesday October 18th.  Please refer to the attached information for parents and carers.
