DO YOU KNOW...

The science behind learning music with others

Enhanced Inhibitory/self- control

A  study  was carried out on children for 4 years. It turns out that the children in group music training showed improvements in their inhibitory control skill (Hennesy, S.L. et al. 2019) noticed in children's brain scans and ability in certain tasks. Interestingly, such an outcome was not as apparent for children trained in other disciplines such as sports training. The ability to navigate a music score requires your child to sift through distractions. An enhanced level of focus is needed. This therefore improves the child's ability to control impulses.  They can control their emotions and reason better before they act or respond even in times of stress or when provoked. This is a non-musical skill  that transfers well to their studies, workplace and social situations.

Collaboration Skills

Learning in a class is so much more than just learning how to play the piano. The ensemble skills promote collaborative learning. It teaches the students to listen and work together.

Why learn the JUNIOR KEYS COURSE OR PIANO KEYS COURSE in small group environment and not private one -on -one lessons at this initial stage of learning music?

The lesson elements in our Forte classes are designed to keep the brain engaged and switched on for the entire lesson. The ensemble skills acquired will stand the students in good stead as they would have learnt to listen and process what is happening around them while also executing what they need to do to play their part.  Ultimately, our students could end up playing in a band or orchestra at school or a rock band with their mates, be involved in music theatre, composing or arranging music.

More importantly, our Junior Keys and Piano Keys classes are FUN! Singing, percussion, movement - there's just so much going on off-bench and at the keyboard - our students simply love learning with us! If they enjoy their time in class, they are likely to stay in the music learning  journey longer.
