Deputy Head of College News

Mr Charles Brauer

Our Marist Family experiences key milestones each academic year. Last night’s Awards night is one of these. The milestone of acknowledging, celebrating and encouraging the efforts of our students is fundamental to our community with enlivening the Mission of our College  - inspiring our young men to love, learn, lead and serve. Beyond this, and most palpable, last night had a nice balance of humility and humour.

There is nothing better than a laugh. Particularly laughing with others, and sometimes, laughing at ourselves. Last night demonstrated how respectfully making light can foster perspective. As we collectively dedicate ourselves to the necessary and diligent work of caring for and educating our students, keeping perspective of what truly matters is essential. That is, we are called to support and encourage others to their best, in the same way we have benefited from others supporting and encouraging us to our best. One of my favourite reflections to this end is ‘The Clown’s Prayer’. I share it with you in hope you can share a laugh with another, knowing you are doing good for our world.

As I stumble through this life,

help me to create more laughter than tears,

dispense more happiness than gloom,

spread more cheer than despair.

Never let me become so indifferent

that I will fail to see the wonder

in the eyes of a child

or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged.

Never let me forget that my total effort

is to cheer people, make them happy

and forget - at least momentarily -

all the unpleasantness in their lives.

And, in my final moment,

may I hear You whisper:

'When you made My people smile,

you made Me smile.'

A warm congratulations to all our students who received an award at last night’s annual Awards Night. Thank you to those who enabled us to have a laugh to keep God smiling in our world.

Travel Pick-up and Drop-Off

It’s imperative each of us meet our responsibilities with respect to local Council parking restrictions. Please ensure you follow all signed parking instructions. By way of example, parking over yellow lines along the Glenlyon Road exit to the College causes much congestion and is unsafe for our students, neighbours and other drivers. Additionally, the Glenlyon Road entrance and the nearby student drop-off and pick-up bay is for staff and Marist Swimming members only. This is not a general student drop-off and pick-up area. Your support with the above contributes to the safe arrival and departure of our students.

How Can I Help or Get Involved?

Many of our parents are keen to help in some way to contribute to the Marist community that we are so well known for. Two ways to do this are through volunteering in the College Tuckshop during the day, or through the Sports Canteens on the weekend.

If you would like to volunteer in the Tuckshop during the day, please click on the relevant link below. Our Tuckshop convenor Josie Loucas will take your details and be only too happy to welcome you into the Tuckshop volunteer family. If you are too nervous to volunteer on your own, there is always the possibility of signing up with a friend. Just let Josie know if you want to be there at the same time as a buddy and I know she will help you out. We have parents who leave at the end of their son’s schooling journey commenting on how much they loved their regular (weekly, fortnightly or even term-by-term) Tuckshop catch-up with friends over the years.

For Sports Canteen volunteers, please keep an eye out on the App for calls to sign up. Remember – if you feel more comfortable with a friend, please rope them in and take them along. The more the merrier!
