This week in Foundation BB…

In Literacy, students have been practising reading fluently and with expression with the help of the text, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. They loved acting out the story with actions and reciting the lines with their most expressive voices! In writing, we used the mentor text, ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?’ to learn about repetitive patterns in narrative texts. We then wrote our own version, ‘Miss Badrock, Miss Badrock, What do you See?’ (Keep an eye out for this text coming home one night soon to share with your family!) In phonics, our focus has been on the digraph ‘wh’ and how it can sometimes make a /w/ sound like in ‘whale’ and sometimes a /h/ sound like in ‘who’.

In Maths, students were excited to engage in learning about ordinal numbers through Formula 1! We cheered on the cars as they came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the race and the drivers stood on the podium. Students then had fun conducting their own races with matchbox cars and then writing the ordinal numbers to show the cars’ final positions in the race.

We wrapped up last term’s inquiry unit with our billy carts incursion. Students loved working together to build a scooter, experimenting with wheels, axles, ramps, and then finally having a go at zooming around in the billy carts. So much fun!

This term we will be learning about creatures ‘Great and Small’; animal features, needs and habitats.

We have loved reconnecting after holidays this week with lots of chatting, sharing holiday highlights and smiles!
