Level 6

Level 6

Maths

Over the course of the first two weeks of Term 4, students will be revising their understandings of Number. Students will be re-exploring Number properties that include prime, composite, square and triangular numbers, as well as the concepts of indices and factors. As with all our maths sessions, activities have real-life connections and experiences, opportunities for students to use concrete and hands-on materials, which help to visualise and represent their understandings, and digital technologies and reasoning and justifying skills embedded in and throughout all lessons.

Writing

This week students have started their Level 6 scrapbook process and have begun creating their first piece, a recount about a particular primary school year/event. Students have planned, drafted and published their pieces which they will then use later this term during the creation of their scrapbook. This keepsake is the highlight for many students in their final year at HEPS, as the reflect on their journey and construct an item that will become an ongoing memory of their primary school lives.

Reading

Throughout the term, students will be exploring advertisements and how they are constructed and used as a text. This week, students began to breakdown and compare tv ads and what techniques are used in them to target their audience and the purpose of each author and their content. An activity that students completed this week required them to compare and contrast two difference ads - their similarities and differences and identify the techniques that the ads contain. Later this term students will create their own print and visual ads for their Inquiry projects and showcase the skills they have learnt from analysing ads.
