Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you and your families had a relaxing break. It's unfortunate that Carlton didn't make the grand final, but as they say, there's always next year!
We wanted to share some updates and important information regarding the school year. Firstly, we want to acknowledge the fantastic efforts of our students and staff last term. We had a great time celebrating R U OK? day with various wellbeing activities and staff versus student sporting events. While the staff may have won both events, it was all in good fun and a lot of great memories were made.
As we kickstart the fourth term, our Year 12 students are currently engrossed in practice exams to prepare for their final VCE exams. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jay Skarpona and Alexandria Apostolopoulos, our current School Captains, for their hard work and exceptional leadership. They will conclude their duties as they begin their final exams. We are in the process of selecting new school captains, and the nomination forms have been filled out by our current Year 11 students.
The VCE exam period can be quite stressful, and we want to assure you that we are working diligently to support and nurture our students to achieve their very best. We believe that this can only be accomplished through a strong partnership between the school and families, as we strive to maximize the opportunities for all the young people in our care across all year levels.
Our Careers team is currently working with all senior students to double-check their programs for 2024. We are more organized than ever before in providing information about the programs available. Additionally, Brad Vallance has been doing a commendable job with our Sports Academy, and the students participating have recently had their uniform fittings.
Red Cliffs staff members have been participating in SWPBS (School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support) training to enhance their skills in the college. SWPBS is a proactive approach to behaviour management that focuses on creating a positive and supportive school environment for all students. The training aims to equip staff members with strategies and tools to effectively address student behaviour and promote a culture of respect and inclusivity.
The purpose of this training is to empower staff members to establish consistent behavioural expectations, teach appropriate behaviour skills, reinforce positive behaviour, and respond effectively to challenging situations. By implementing SWPBS, Red Cliffs College aims to improve student engagement, reduce disruptive behaviour, and foster a safe and supportive learning environment.
As part of the training, staff members have been learning about evidence-based practices and strategies that promote positive behaviour and prevent the occurrence of problem behaviour. They have also been engaging in collaborative discussions and workshops to share experiences and learn from one another. The training not only enhances the skills of individual staff members but also promotes a collective commitment to creating a positive and respectful school environment.
Throughout this training process, Red Cliffs College values the input and participation of the broader school community. They believe that incorporating diverse perspectives and ideas will result in a more comprehensive and effective action plan. Seeking input from students, parents, and other stakeholders will ensure that the SWPBS implementation aligns with the unique needs and context of the college.
We are thrilled to announce that the Reddy Set Show will take place next Thursday, October 12th, at 6:30 PM. Tickets are on sale at the general office for $5, and the event will be held in the Lecture Theatre and canteen area. We hope you can join us for this exciting event!
Lastly, we would like to commend our Student Representative Council (SRC) for their amazing work throughout the year. They have collaborated with our Wellbeing team to organize various events, and we encourage you to keep an eye out for what's to come.
To ensure the success of your child, here are three creative tips:
1. Establish a consistent study routine at home and provide a quiet, dedicated space for studying.
2. Encourage regular communication with teachers to stay updated on assignments and progress.
3. Foster a positive mindset and help your child set realistic goals to stay motivated.
Additionally, please remind your child to bring their essential materials to school every day, including textbooks, notebooks, and any specific supplies requested by their teachers.
Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation. We look forward to the remainder of the school year and working together to ensure the success and well-being of our students.
