From the Principal

Mr Torpey

St Justin’s Primary School acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia's First People and Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which our school stands.

We pay our respects to the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation, and their elders past and present, as we continue to proudly live and learn on their land.

Dear Families and Friends,

What a busy, wonderful term – one that we should all be proud of. There’s been many things on which help cater for the needs of all.  It can only be made possible by us all working together, everyone sharing the responsibility.  And for us all, that can look a little different - people contribute in all sorts of ways.

A number of years ago I remember interviewing Andrew Carazzo, former No 44 from Carlton Football Club.  When asked how he copes with any criticism from the media or opposition crowds, Andrew reminded us that at the end of the day, when we put our head on our pillow, we are the only one that can answer the questions “Did I do my best today? Was I a contributor to the team? What can I do tomorrow that might make a difference to the team?” Whilst Andrew was talking about the Carlton Football Team, we all belong to ‘a team’ and it is those contributions we make that brings meaning and purpose to our life. Thanks everyone – it’s great to be on your team.

A number of highlights from Term 3 include:

Regional Futsal Championship

On Tuesday and Wednesday we had a 3/4 Boys, 3/4 Girls, 5/6 Boys and 5/6 Girls teams selected to represent St Justin's at the Regional Futsal Championships.

On Tuesday, our 3/4 teams were superb right throughout the day scoring amazing goals, showing wonderful support for their team mates but more importantly showing amazing sportsmanship which I am proud to say was made mention of by 4 teachers from opposing schools across the day.

This positive attitude reflected well on the results for the day with the Girls coming runners up and progressing to the state championships in term 4, while the boys narrowly lost their semi final 4-3. A tremendous effort by each and every one of our players.

On Wednesday we saw our 5/6 teams play and they picked up where the 3/4's left off. The girls dominated right throughout the day winning every game on their way to being crowned champions and of course progressing to the state champs. The most pleasing part was seeing the girls stepping out of their comfort zone and happily trying all positions.

Our 5/6 boys played so well as a team right throughout the day and remained in a positive frame of mind in each and every game. Every player got on the score sheet throughout the day whilst Julien in goals was immense. Unfortunately the boys came up against a very strong team in the final and went down 5-2. Finishing runners up for the day means that they join the girls at the state championships.

Overall St Justin's not only showed their skills, but how well they can gel together to be successful as a team on both days. A huge thank you to Mrs Stewart for coaching both girls teams through to the state championships! A fantastic effort from you SUPERCOACH!

Have a great holidays everyone,

Mr Johnson

Family School Improvement Survey

Thanks to those families who participated in the 2023 Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS). The survey is conducted annual and provides a great insight into the thoughts and feelings of students, families and staff. The data is then used to help inform our school (and other schools accross the  Archdiocese of Melbourne)in how we can improve.

For those families who completed the survey and entered their details via the google form, they will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a Pancake Parlour voucher and/or a St Justin’s Fair on the Hill Family Voucher, valued at $100 (winner announced early Term 4). Thanks again to those families who completed the survey - very much appreciated.

Fair on the Hill

A great deal of work has already gone into our Fair on the Hill and for a small working party, a great deal has been achieved. As always, we continue to look for more support as this will help create a special event. Follow the link for more information.

Hats -Time to get ‘Sun Smart’

A reminder that St Justin’s is a 'Sun Smart School' and as a result, throughout October to the end of April, students are required to wear a sun protective school hat that protects the face, neck and ears. Please make sure that your child’s hat is clean, in good condition and clearly labelled. New hats can be purchased from Academy Uniforms. Students will also be encouraged to wear broad-spectrum water resistant sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and to be responsible for its reapplication throughout the day. Students are welcome to bring their own sunscreen (not to share) or apply in the mornings before coming to school. As always, students are also encouraged to have a drink bottle.

Where's  Mr T

Can you find Mr T? He's hiding somewhere in the newsletter.

Have a great 2 week break and we look forward to seeing you all next term.
