Student Leadership Conference
Mrs McLay, Zoe Hutchison, and myself, as school leaders had a once in a lifetime opportunity of going to Sydney for a Student Leadership Conference held by the NSW Parliament.
To start off, we drove to Wagga, and departed from Wagga Airport at around 6pm, making sure we got a selfie with the pilot! When we arrived in Sydney we made our way to the Meriton Suites in the CBD on the train. For two girls with limited experience with the city of Sydney we really enjoyed seeing the busyness of Sydney and the process of going through the airport. After we got settled at the apartment, we went and enjoyed dinner at ‘Spice Alley’. With an absolutely delicious dinner we were ready for a big next day.
The start of the day began with going to Parliament House meeting 10 members of parliament along with 100 other school leaders from around NSW. The MP’s explained their experiences with leadership and their advice for us as the future leaders of tomorrow.
To finish off our time at Parliament House we sat in on question time of the Legislative Assembly and Council of the NSW Parliament. This was a high pressure and loud experience that we didn't expect!
To end our day, we made the walk to the Government House. With a beautiful tour and lecture from the Governor of NSW, Margaret Beazley, who currently is the acting Governor General of Australia. With some afternoon refreshments we completed a day we will never forget filled with interesting insight into the running of our NSW Government. We'd like to thank Mrs McLay for accompanying us to Sydney.
