Principals Message

For this weeks newsletter, I would like to acknowledge some outstanding members of the Wellbeing Team at Narrandera High School.

The NHS Student Support Officer (SSO) Jacqui works with all members of the school community to support students and their families. She works in partnership with the wellbeing team and the School Counselling Service and with external agencies to creating referral pathways for students and families to youth and family support agencies.

Jacqui contributes to the implementation and delivery of the whole-of school wellbeing programs such as Love Bites, with groups to support their wellbeing needs and works one on one with students when necessary. She works with other wellbeing supports to assist students to develop social and emotional skills through strengths-based program and strategies that build resilience, coping skills and positive relationships. Jacqui’s office is a safe space for all students.

Mrs Brooke Lucas is the Head Teacher Wellbeing and the teacher in the Intervention Centre.

Mrs Lucas collaborates with all members of the school community to foster a supportive and nurturing environment that enhances the overall wellbeing of our students and their families. She has implemented a number of wholistic wellbeing programs that cater to the diverse needs of our students. Mrs Lucas uses proactive strategies and data to facilitate programs such as PIP (Positive Intervention Program) to support students to develop self regulation strategies that they can use in all areas of their lives.

Mrs Lucas coordinates the transition program for students as they enter secondary school to ensure they feel known and cared for as they begin Year 7. She works closely with partner primary schools to allow students to have access to a transition program which will lead to a positive start to their secondary schooling.

Year 12 are organising the first school social since COVID. I highly commend Year 12 for their continued efforts to raise money for Can Assist. More information about the iPod Shuffle Night is in this newsletter.

As this is a non-curricular school event, students participation in these activities is based on a their positive commitment to school life at Narrandera High School. Students may be excluded from extracurricular activities if

  • They are on step 2 or step 3.
  • They have been suspended in the previous four school weeks.
  • Their attendance in class is less than 80%.
  • They truant class and have been placed on Step 2 Attendance card.
  • Stage 5 and 6 students who have outstanding N Determination warning letters.

For students who have one or more of the above points, staff organising the excursion will need to seek the approval of the Deputy Principal or Principal for the student to attend.

The iPod Shuffle Night will be fully supervised by staff and tickets to attend will be pre-purchased. Once in the Hall, students will not be permitted to leave the event early without a parent signing them out.
