Head of Sport Report

Well, there is plenty of excitement at Blue Mountains Grammar this week with the return of the NSW State of Origin team for training. The BMGS students were able to get up close and personal this week, cheering the Origin boys on from the sideline. I hope that all the players are taking in the commitment of these players to their training program and showing the same commitment to their ISA team training.

Some of our ISA players had an opportunity to meet NSW State of Origin coach Michael Maguire after training this week.

Congratulations

Swimming

Noah Erne recently competed at the NSW All Schools Swimming Championships at SOPAC. He earned 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals in the 15 years and under age group.

As a result of Noah’s success, he has now qualified for 8 events at School Sport Australia swimming Nationals, representing BMGS. This will be held on the Gold Coast in July: 50m free, 100m free, 200m free, 50m back, 50m breast, 100m breast, 50m fly, and 200m Individual Medley.

Congratulations, Noah!  It is good to see that all the time in the pool is reaping you great rewards. All the very best at SSA.

Football

Ben Archer has been selected to represent a NSW Select side as the U14s goalkeeper to compete at the Ultimate Fiji Cup, in Fiji, at the end of November. Players are selected based on playing ability, attitude and passion for the game. Ben was scouted at a recent game and received full backing from his coaches.

Ben will travel to Fiji to compete in this tournament from the 26th November to 3rd December. Well done Ben and all the best in Fiji.

Basketball

Eric Downes’ U18 Lithgow Lazer’s representative team recently competed in the John Martin Country Cup which is a qualifier for the NSW State Basketball Championships. The team had a close fought grand-final against the Illawarra Hawks going down by one point.

As a result of the team’s success, they will be competing in the NSW State Cup at Orange in August. We wish Eric all the best at this tournament.

Orienteering

Whilst our first round of Orienteering was washed out it was great to see a good turnout for the second round. This is a lifetime sport that is interesting, challenging and fun. I would like to say a big thank you to Vanessa and Mark Freeman for the time that they put into organising and running this event for our students. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Blazer Embroidery – DUE MONDAY

This term we will be doing the embroidery for Year 12 students only. This will then allow for all 2025 incoming captains to have their blazers embroidered in Term 3. All year 12 students who require embroidery will need to have their blazer dry-cleaned and delivered to the Uniform Shop on Monday 24th June.

For your blazer to be accepted it must be dry-cleaned, in the dry-cleaning plastic and have the receipt stapled to the plastic. This is a WHS requirement from the embroidery company.

All students submitting blazers are required to type a list of the items that are required on their blazer as a double check for our embroidery list. Please put this list in the top pocket of your blazer.

Athletics Carnival

The BMGS Athletics carnival has been moved to Tuesday 30th July. All students are expected to attend this carnival.

Parent volunteers are welcome. You can email me to express your interest. Rotary will once again be running a BBQ on the day so please support them.
