As we approach the conclusion of this term, we are excited to share some of the enriching experiences and learning milestones your children have achieved in Grade 2:

Reading

Throughout this term, our students have been immersed in books exploring themes of friendship. They've delved into various narratives that highlight the importance of companionship and the struggles of friendships, discussing how nouns and verbs contribute to the depth of these stories. By identifying key words and expressions, they've enhanced their comprehension skills and developed a deeper appreciation for storytelling. We've also encouraged them to reflect on how these stories relate to their own experiences, fostering empathy and critical thinking.

Writing

In writing, our second graders have been enthusiastic about crafting narratives that ignite the imagination. Using 'sizzling starters' to hook the reader's interest, they've developed plots with engaging settings and characters. They have been practicing how to re-read their work to make edits and revisions to help make the story better. We're proud of their progress in expressing ideas cohesively and creatively.

Mathematics

In maths, this term we focused on strengthening fundamental skills in data handling, addition, and subtraction. Students have actively engaged in collecting, organising, and interpreting data sets, applying their understanding to solve real-world problems. Using tools such as number lines and place value strategies, they've developed confidence in tackling mathematical challenges independently. Through hands-on activities and collaborative projects, they've honed their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Inquiry and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

Our inquiry projects have sparked curiosity and creativity among our second graders. They've constructed detailed models of familiar landscapes and explored various landforms, deepening their understanding of geography and the natural world. Alongside academic growth, we've prioritized social-emotional learning, emphasizing problem-solving skills and the importance of kindness. Through interactive discussions and role-playing scenarios, students have developed empathy and resilience, fostering a supportive classroom environment where every voice is valued.
