Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we reach the end of the first semester, we reflect on the incredible journey our Year 3 pupils have embarked on. This semester has been filled with engaging activities, enriching learning experiences, and significant academic and personal growth. We are immensely proud of the progress our pupils have made and are grateful for the continued support from our families. Here’s a recap of our highlights from Term 2:

1. Healesville Sanctuary Excursion: Our trip to Healesville Sanctuary was a fantastic experience! The pupils had a wonderful day learning about native animals and their habitats. This excursion perfectly complemented our Inquiry unit on Australia, providing hands on learning that brought our classroom studies to life.

2. The Resilience Project: This term, we focused on the concept of "bucket filling." students learnt how performing kind acts and helping others can also bring joy and fulfilment to themselves. It has been heartening to see the pupils embrace this concept and practise it daily.

3. Maths: Our maths sessions have been both educational and fun! Pupils enjoyed collecting data and creating graphs, enhancing their IT skills by using Google Sheets to represent their data visually. We also introduced fractions, which the pupils loved, especially when it involved practical applications by linking their understanding to the real world. The ability to share pizzas into slices seems to be a strength!

4. Reading: We emphasised making connections and visualising while reading, as well as participating in the Premiers' Reading Challenge. We encourage pupils and families to read a variety of texts daily to improve comprehension, fluency, and accuracy.

5. Writing: This term, we focused on improving our writing skills by turning simple sentences into compound sentences and incorporating more extensive vocabulary to make our writing more engaging. We also emphasised the importance of editing our work and using correct punctuation.

6. ICT Safety: We have been having discussions with the students around the importance of staying safe online. We encourage parents to visit eSafety's website for parents https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents to better understand how to ensure online safety for their children.

A big thank you to all the families for their ongoing support throughout this semester. It has been a fantastic term, and we look forward to continuing our learning journey in Term 3.

We hope you all have a restful break and come back ready for more exciting learning adventures!

Kind regards,

The Grade 3 Team - Georgie, Lauren, Holly, Kate and Jess
