Term 2 Starts with a Bang

We are off an running into Term 2 in the Year 1 spaces with some new units of work and some exciting events that have taken place.

Reading

Students have begun with their Fairy Tales unit and  have been working in the class to identify the structural elements, analyse character’s emotions and reactions and sequences of significant events and their impact. The students have been able to share their thoughts and understandings through small discussion groups and also whole class discussions. This has enabled them to think about their reading at a deeper level.

Writing

Running in conjunction with the reading unit, students have been busy planning their own Fairy Tales and have commenced the drafting stage. We have been very excited to see the students ideas coming to life as they construct their own versions or completely generic and unique stories. Students will continue to work through the writing process until their drafts are completed with revisions and edits before they are publishing them.

Maths

Students are in the final stages of completing their counting and patterns unit, they have been working on developing their ability to count by 2s, 5s and 10s, some even having a go at counting by 3s. We will look to apply this knowledge as we move into our Addition and Subtraction Units.

ANZAC SERVICE

Our students were very engaged in learning about ANZAC Day and the sacrifices that our military forces have and continue to make in order for us to live the way in which we do. Their appreciation grew over the day after a wonderful service conducted by their Year 6 buddies.

Thanks,

The Year 1 Team
