Lunchtime Club
It has been brilliant to see our Lunchtime Club back being a hive of activity. At Scotsburn, we love to have this as an option for students each and every day, as a space to explore imaginative and creative play in a calm environment.
This week, Lunchtime Club themes are:
- Lego play
- houses and homes
Family Groups
This week is the last rotation of family groups this Friday for the term. Students have loved making ANZAC slices (thanks to the lovely donation of oats) and fresh fruit jelly. It has been wonderful to see students trying lots of new food that they may not necessarily have eaten before or were previously not willing to try. We look forward to cooking lots more delicious foods next term!
Holiday Animal Care
It is that time of the term again where we are putting out the offer for anyone that would be interested and has the time to assist with Pip and our chickens over the holidays. Pip the Lizard would love a holiday at someone’s house, and she is extremely low maintenance! Our chickens will stay onsite, however just need a check for eggs, water and food every few days.
If your family is interested and willing to help, please come and see Jarrod over the next week to make arrangements.
Scotsburn Assembly this Friday
This Friday we will hold our final Scotsburn assembly for the term, at 3pm in the shed. As a big final wrap up of the term, we will aim to include lots of celebrations, photos and videos to celebrate what has been another incredible term at Scotsburn. We hope to see lots of you there!
Parent Teacher Interviews and 3 Way Conversations
Next Monday and Wednesday we will hold our Semester 1 Parent Teacher interviews for SC1, and 3 Way Conversations for SC2. It has been wonderful to see so many families already make a booking, with both classes filling up fast. These interviews are such a valuable and important aspect of our home-school relationship, and provide us with the opportunity to celebrate each student’s achievements, as well as discuss future goals. If you are yet to make a booking time, they are still open on Compass this week.
Term 2 Reading Goal
Congratulations to all our students who have made our term 2 reading target of 60 nights. It has been lovely to see how proud our students are that have reached the target. You are all superstars! We have also had several students who have reached 100 nights of reading. Well done to these students, we know that reading is power and you all have ‘the power’!
We will be holding our whole campus reward day on Friday 28th, June after we return from the whole school assembly at Buninyong.
Scotsburn Stay and Play Morning
Next Tuesday and Thursday between 9:30am and 10:30am, we are holding a Stay and Play morning for any potential families interested in coming along and seeing all the great programs and facilities we offer here at Scotsburn. These mornings are a chance for us to showcase our wonderful campus in action and provide information to potential families around enrolment. If you know any families that are looking to enrol their child/children in the foreseeable future, please pass on this information or we can give you a flyer. If you have any questions, please email Ana at anastasia.anderson@education.vic.gov.au
Piano Donation
Last week the campus was contacted by a local Buninyong family, who offered the donation (and delivery) of their family piano, which they no longer required the use of. We were extremely grateful for such an offer, and we will be sure to put it to good use as part of our Music and Performing Arts program. Thank you very much to the Almeida family for such a thoughtful and generous donation.
SC1 Learning Snapshot
In SC1, we have been reading non-fiction books about dinosaurs. Students are loving looking at facts such as how long ago dinosaurs lived and the features of different dinosaurs. Part of our exploration of non-fiction texts is looking at literal comprehension skills (facts stated directly in the text). Our writing has also consisted of links to dinosaur facts with explicit teaching focused on correct sentence structure and the use of punctuation. The use of capital letters and end marks (such as full stops, exclamation marks, and question marks) has been our primary focus.
In Maths, our main theme has been place value. We are developing our knowledge around reading, writing and ordering numbers. Part of this has been around continuing skip-counting patterns and identifying the pattern being used.
Yesterday, students had a full day of Specialist classes. They enjoyed lots of different activities spread over the day with Ms. Middlin.
Mrs. Inglis will be away next week on long service leave. We hope she has a wonderful time away with her family.
Thanks,
Ana and Hayley
SC2 Learning Snapshot
Over the past week in SC2, students have been moving towards publishing some pieces of work leading into the end of semester, as well as beginning some end of term reflections on their personal learning goals and future learnings.
In Reading, students have been working on Critiquing the books that they read, including noticing aspects of a text that they like and don’t like. Students have also been working on their individual reading goals, using specific prompts to guide their thinking. In Writing, we have continued to draft and publish our persuasive space pieces. Students have been concentrating hard on structure, as well as including lots of persuasive devices. Space travel sure does sound appealing now!
As mathematicians, SC2 have continued to work on the concepts of decimals and fractions, as well as our understanding of clocks and time. The growth mindset and energy in Maths classes at the moment is brilliant to see.
As students complete their student report reflections this week, it has been so uplifting to see how proud everyone is of their achievements so far this year. We really have come so far!
See you all during the week,
Jarrod and Liz
Scotsburn Intercampus Travel At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.
We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher. |
