Healthy Living OzHarvest FEAST Program
What a fantastic term it’s been for the Grade 5 and 6 Healthy Living students! Over the course of the term, our students have been actively engaged in OzHarvest’s FEAST program - a curriculum-aligned initiative that promotes healthy eating, reduces food waste, and empowers students to become advocates for positive change in our community.
Throughout the program, students have had the opportunity to enhance their culinary skills while learning about the importance of sustainability. In the practical sessions, they enthusiastically participated in cooking delicious and nutritious dishes such as Fruit Skewers, Fast Fritters, French Toast, Banana Pikelets, and Muesli Bliss Balls. These hands-on experiences have not only deepened their understanding of nutrition but have also fostered invaluable teamwork and cooking skills that they will carry with them into the future.
In addition to cooking, students also delved into the theoretical component of the program. They built their research and design skills by creating their very own recipes for our Healthy Living Digital Cookbook. This aspect of the FEAST program encouraged creativity and allowed students to apply their knowledge of food waste in a practical and meaningful way.
The success of the program would not have been possible without a helping hand:
We would like to thank OzHarvest for their partnership and ongoing support throughout the delivery of the program. Together, we have made a significant impact on our students’ understanding of food sustainability and healthy living!
Thank you to Ciabatta Della Nonna Bakery for generously donating all of the bread for the delicious French Toast.
Thank you to Rosie Candusso for giving up your time each week to support the students in the cooking program and sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you to the wonderful staff members who helped with the weekly set up, ensuring everything was prepared and ready for the students.
And of course, a very big thank you to our amazing parents and volunteers: David, Liss, Emma, Michelle, Lisa, Anita, Raman, Briohny, Alice and Kym. We could not have run the practical sessions without you!
