Principal's Report

Here we are at the end of another term. With the cold mornings it has now become very apparent that winter is here. The holidays are always a good opportunity for students, parents and staff to take a break to rest, and hopefully recover from all of the coughs and colds that are around at this time of the year.

Reports

Teachers have now finished the Semester 1 reports and Assessment Portfolios. During the holidays I will be reading and signing the reports.

The Assessment Portfolios, including the reports, will be sent home on Tuesday July 16th. We ask parents to read all of the information enclosed, sign the parent form and provide any feedback you believe is appropriate and then return the portfolio to school by Monday July 22nd so that you can refer to it during your child’s 3 Way Conference.

The Compass booking system is now open so please ensure that you have booked a conference time. It is very important that parents, teachers and the child are all working towards the same goals to ensure your child is making the desired progress.

School Council

On Monday night we had a School Council meeting. Members of our Community sub-committee have been focusing on organising events that can bring members the community together in a social way. Last Friday evening they ran a winter movie night. The event was well supported, and feedback has been very positive. It was great that so many families braved the cold weather to watch the movie.

Our next event is the annual Comedy Night which is being held on Friday July 19th. There are only a few tickets left so make sure you book now.

In term 4 we will be holding a Trivia Night on Saturday October 26th. There will be further information on how to book towards the end of term 3.

Music, Performing Arts

This semester our Prep and Year 2 students have had session of performing arts each week and our Year 1 and 3 students have had session of music. Next semester they will change so the Preps and Year 2 will have music and the Year 1 and 3 will have performing arts.

Last week Sam McCall, our performing arts teacher, and Jason Sofra, our music teacher, joined their classes together to put on a mini concert. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Prep/1 performance.

They were very impressive! Well done to all of the Prep-3 students and Sam and Jason for organising it.

Holiday Works

During the term break we are having several maintenance works done throughout the school.

  • A section of the turf at the senior school is being replaced due to some movement of the ground under the turf which has left some large divots.
  • Every 12 months we have an audit of all of our trees. The most recent audit has identified 12 trees that need to be either removed or pruned.
  • The walls in two classrooms at the senior school are being repaired due to ongoing dampness.
  • Testing and tagging of our electrical cords and appliances.

All of the timber windows on the west side of the senior school, main building, are being replaced due to rot. At this stage we are unsure if this will be done during the holiday period. The company doing the project have ordered the windows but are unsure when they will be ready to install.

Holidays

Friday is the last day of Term 2 and school will finish at 2.30pm. Parent please ensure you are not late to pick up your child as some children become quite upset if their parents are not here to pick them up on time.

I hope all of our families who are lucky enough to be escaping Melbourne and heading north to the sunshine have a lovely time. For those of you, who like me, are staying in Melbourne I hope you too have a relaxing two weeks.

We look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday July 15.

Regards

Janet Paterson
