Water Polo

The Schools Water Polo competition is up and running on a Friday evening this term.  The College has representation in the Year 5/6 mixed, a combined team with Dominic College in Year 7/8, and a combined team with Mackillop in the Year 9/10 girls’ competitions.

The Year 5/6 team includes Year 5 students Eden Kingston and Esther Wootton and Year 6 students Isla Christie, Frida Barclay, Willow Helgeson, Isla Damen and Amelia Hall. The team has had a tough start to the season, with only the bare numbers. The beginners in the team have been on a steep learning curve, and have been doing an amazing job. After a couple of heavy losses to start the season, the roster has now been split in divisions, which should see some more competitive tussles. The highlight so far has been their Round 3 thrilling win against Princes Street Blue 11-9.

In the secondary competition, we are grateful for the successful composite arrangements that have enabled our students to participate.  The Year 7/8 team is enjoying their season, thanks to the support from Dominic College parents coaching and managing the team.  The team is currently placed 7th on the ladder of 11 teams, with some very close encounters.

The Year 9/10 team has been bolstered by the inclusion of two Mackillop College players.  After two first up losses, the team has regrouped and hoping for a strong finish to the season. The team is currently placed 5th on the ladder of 9 teams, with an excellent win last week against Clarence High.

Thanks to families for all their support, particularly with transport to trainings and games, and assistance with scoring.  Good luck to all our teams in the remainder of the season.

Secondary Hockey

Mount Carmel has a team in the Hockey Tasmania Girls Division 2 School competition on Monday afternoons.  The competition is predominantly for Year 9/10s, but to fill the team we are grateful for Year 7 students Eve Sylvester, Sophia McNulty and Eliza Fleming stepping up to the challenge.  With camp, sickness and injury impacting player availability, we joined forces with St Mary’s College and now have an additional three players to ensure the team can compete.  All matches have been really competitive, and the team has combined beautifully.  After a bye last week, the team is looking forward to testing themselves against Friends’ again after the long weekend.
