Melanie Sluyters

"He who marvels at the beauty of the world in summer will find equal cause for wonder and admiration in winter... In winter the stars seem to have rekindled their fires, the moon achieves a fuller triumph, and the heavens wear a look of a more exalted simplicity."

Scott’s BMX Tricks

Last Friday I am sure you could hear the squeals of delight and gasps of surprise that were coming from the Cahill Centre as our Prep to Year 6 were entertained by Scott Hone.  He performed the most amazing tricks, juggled balls and bowling pins, told stories and garnered audience involvement -  all whilst riding his BMX bikes.

It was wonderful to witness the pure joy that was palpable around the hall and even after listening to students as they were leaving, many quoting ‘Best Show Ever Ms Sluyters.

Scott's Act
This morning in the hall, we saw an incredible, amazing, funny, clever guy who did professional, amazing tricks on his BMX bike. His name was Scott. I felt a bit scared when Scott came close tot he crowd. Other than that I thought it was funny and cool. Scott also did a wheelie and went backwards on his BMX. Scott told us about the circus and how he waited for five years to join. Scott also juggled with bowling pins, used magnetic boxed and did tricks with rubber services. Scott can balance, ride, joke and act.

Chess

We are looking at reintroducing a MCC Chess Club into the Primary in Term 3 so last week Years 1 - 6 students were invited to join James from Black Square Chess to see if the interest was there; and it was most definitely there.

Nearly sixty students turned up to the Library to take part, some of whom had never seen a chess board before and they all spent their recess learning the finer art of chess and challenging one another to games.  From Tuesday 11 June until the end of term we will continue to run this event before setting up something more permanent in Term 3.

Debating

Our Year 5 and 6 students are right in the middle of the Junior Debating Competition and it was an absolute privilege to watch some of our debaters last fortnight and again last night debate. Debating provides our students with a range of essential skills such as critical thinking, communication and building self confidence.  Learning to debate also promotes skills in research and collaboration all of which contributes to their academic, personal, and social development.

Thanks to Mrs Natalie Hall for overseeing this with our Year 5 and 6 students and to the upper Primary staff for their support of their students. Also thank you, our parents/guardians for ensuring your daughter is prepared and at the debate on time.

Uniform

Just a reminder that the tie is not an optional extra with the winter uniform and that students should also be wearing either navy socks or navy stockings.  It is also important to note that the blazer is worn to and from school and all students are asked to pack their jumper, cardigan or vest as the blazer is not permitted to be worn in the playground at recess or lunch times.
