Semester One Overview
It is a pleasure to be able to share some of the remarkable achievements and memorable events that have marked our first semester. Opening our doors in 2024, we have already begun to build a vibrant and thriving school community through the positive interactions of staff, students and the wider community. Some of the highlights of Semester One include:
Harmony Week Celebrations: Harmony Week was a fantastic event where students embraced and celebrated cultural diversity. Students had the opportunity to wear their cultural attire, perform traditional dances, and learn about each other’s cultures, fostering a sense of unity and respect within our school community.
Sports Achievements: Our sports teams have shown tremendous dedication and skill. Notably, the Year 10 boys' soccer team advanced to the second stage of the competition, showcasing their hard work and teamwork. Additionally, our Year 10 soccer students joined the junior school for a special Q&A and skills session with Western United FC, inspiring the next generation of athletes.
Senior School Homework Club: We successfully established our first Senior School Homework Club, providing a supportive environment for students to complete their assignments and receive extra help from teachers and peers.
Staff vs. Students Volleyball Match: The staff vs. students volleyball match was a highlight, providing a fun and competitive atmosphere that strengthened the bonds within our school community.
Careers and Pathways: Many students have been actively working with Charmaine de Souse, our Careers and Pathways Leader, to explore suitable pathways. Students were provided with opportunities to engage in a work experience program, helping them gain valuable insights into their future careers.
First Senior School Examinations: Our Year 10 students successfully completed their first senior school examinations for semester one, demonstrating their commitment to academic excellence.
College Values Awards: We are proud to see many of our students reaching above and beyond to demonstrate the college values. These students have been recognised with College Values Awards during semester one, highlighting their dedication and positive contributions to our school community.
School Oval: The construction of our school oval is nearing completion and should be ready for students to use in semester two. This will provide a fantastic space for sports and outdoor activities.
Year 10 School Formal: Our School Formal Committee has been working diligently with Ms. Toloa to plan our first Year 10 School Formal. We are excited for this event and look forward to seeing our students enjoy a memorable evening.
VCE/VM Information Evening: Students and families attended a VCE/VM Information Evening to prepare for course counselling sessions where Year 11 and 12 pathways will be discussed in Term 3. This event provided crucial information to help students make informed decisions about their future academic journeys.
Thank you to all the families, students, and teachers who have contributed to making this first semester a success. Your dedication and enthusiasm are what make Bemin Secondary College a wonderful place to learn and grow. We look forward to many more achievements and memorable moments in the coming months ahead.

Year 11 Course Counselling Day for 2025 is fast approaching and we are looking forward to meeting with students and their families to discuss future options at Bemin Secondary College. The date for Course Counselling is the 19th of July (Week 1 of Term 3).
During this face-to-face Course Counselling session, a member of the Senior School team will work with you and your child to help make decisions about the most appropriate subjects for your child’s identified career path.
Prior to meeting with a Senior School staff member for Course Counselling it is recommended that students have completed the following:
During Course Counselling, it is mandatory that students attend their allocated session as this will contribute to their attendance. Year 10 classes will not take place on this date and students are only to attend school for an interview at their allocated time.
Where possible we encourage all parents are present to support their child’s future decisions. It is beneficial if a parent can attend interviews, but all students are expected to attend with or without a parent.
There will be further information available to families regarding specific time slots for Course Counselling which will be communicated by the College in the coming weeks.
The Bemin Secondary College Year 11 and 12 handbook is now available via the College website. It can be accessed via: https://subjects.beminsc.vic.edu.au/
It is advised that students and families access this handbook prior to course counselling as a step which is imperative to the process leading up to final student subject selections for VCE.
Reconciliation week is a time for all to learn about the shared histories of Australia, it’s cultures and achievements and learn about how we can all contribute to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. This year’s theme was ‘Now More Than Ever’ and is intended as a reminder that the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people must continue.
Students on the Senior campus participated in a community mural where each student painted their hand red, yellow or black and placed their handprint within the Aboriginal flag. This coming together represented the commitment as a College community to reconciliation. The mural will be displayed in the library, contributing the vibrant and inclusive culture at the College.
NAIDOC week runs from July 7-14 and is an opportunity for all to learn about First Nations cultures and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can participate in local events in Wyndham by visiting https://www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/naidoc or learn more about the civil rights movement that founded NAIDOC here https://www.naidoc.org.au/.
Keep an eye on the Year 10 noticeboard for activities running in Week 1 of Term 3.

In Check & Connect this term students have participated in a variety of activities aimed at improving mindfulness, general knowledge and literacy-based skills while incorporating the College values.
Each week has explored one of the College values and how they are a part of our lives in variety of ways, both inside and outside of the school environment. Through these learning opportunities, students have had the chance to improve their skills to manage with the pressures of school and life. These activities have been used to start getting our Year 10’s ready for the next two years of their education journey and how best to cope with a growing workload.
In addition to exploring the College values, students also participated in word games, fun facts and trivia to assist them in preparing for learning by getting them thinking and improving their literacy and general knowledge skills.
Teachers also use this time to inform students of any upcoming activities and to make announcements.
To make the most of their learning opportunities, students should attend Check & Connect everyday to ensure that they receive all important information and notices.

From Friday, June 7th to Thursday, June 13th, Bemin Secondary College held its first senior school Year 10 semester exams. Our gymnasium was meticulously set up to accommodate 230 students, who sat for both core and elective subjects under VCAA exam conditions. For many, this was their first experience with formal exam conditions.
We are incredibly proud of our students for their commendable effort and academic excellence throughout this period. Their dedication and hard work truly reflect our commitment to fostering a culture of excellence. Congratulations to all our Year 10 students for achieving this significant milestone. We know students now know what to expect for the Semester 2 exams.
The examination results will be on Compass early Term 3. Students will then receive their marked exam papers for the opportunity to get teacher feedback on what they did well and what they may need to improve on in each subject.
We thank all parents and carers for their unwavering support in creating a favourable study environment at home and allowing students to attend our Wednesday after school Homework Club. Your involvement played a crucial role in your child’s success and reflects the strength of our community.

"My name is Khalid and I am a student at Bemin Secondary College. I really enjoy being a student at this school because it gives me opportunities to become what I want to be in the future. Bemin teachers have high expectations of their students as they want us all to succeed. The teachers are also kind and respectful to their students. We are all in lucky positions as Bemin because we're going to be the first to graduate in the whole school and will get to leave behind a legacy that future students can look up to and be proud of. "

These two terms have been a blast. We got to experience many new things this semester as senior school students. Our Year 10 team went through a roller coaster of emotions, practising, studying, and preparing for our big week of exams. Great job to all!
What I have enjoyed this semester is learning new skills and gaining more knowledge for the future. I am excited for what is next, as we work towards our pathways for next year.

This semester has been enjoyable, especially Harmony Wek. It has also had its challenges, such as CATs and exams. One thing I love about this school is that even though it is a new school, everyone gets along so well in their classes and has formed one community.
Next semester, I’m looking forward to the Year 10 Formal, our new electives and the oval opening. Hopefully we continue to grow as a community and build a bright future for ourselves.

Our first semester at Bemin has been great. All the students are building friendships and adjusting to life as senior school students.
We are looking forward to the formal and getting into our houses for our first school athletics carnival with the Year 7s.
We are nervous about picking our subjects for next year but know that our teachers are here to support us.
We wish everyone happy holidays and good luck navigating the next few years.
