Staff in the Spotlight

With so many staff joining our team this year, we would like to give our school community the opportunity to get to know our new teachers in a fun way. Each week we will be spotlighting a new staff member and sharing with you all sorts of fun and interesting stories about who they are and most importantly, why they became a teacher, and what they love most about teaching!

This week we are spotlighting Blake Murray.

Blake is an experienced English and Humanities teacher who also worked as a Year Level Leader at his previous school. Blake joined Wantirna College at the beginning of Term 2, and he has settled in so well that it feels like he’s been with us much longer than just a term! Welcome Blake, it’s great having you on the team.

How long have you been teaching?

7 years

What school/university or organisation have you come from?

Mordialloc College

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I was inspired to become a teacher due to some incredible teachers I had in Years 11 and 12 that really made a difference in my life at the time.

What do you love most about teaching?

I love the 'down to earth' conversations with students, when you really get to know who they are, what interests them and what they care about.

What are three things you would like your students to know about you?

I love to travel, read, and explore the outdoors with my fluffy companion Zeus :)

What has been one of your best teaching moments? My favourite experiences are always the school camps!

Where's your favourite holiday destination?

Japan! I went in 2015 as my first overseas country, and even after visiting six different countries since, it still sits at the top of my list! An incredible holiday destination.

What TV show/series did you last binge watch?

Outlander - great semi-historical drama!

What is the one piece of 'advice' or the one thing that you always say to your students?

Your scores and results don't define who you are. Find something you are passionate about and love to do, and pursue it!
