Celebrating Hands-On Learning

Connect Program

Term 2 Connect Highlights

Term 2 at Wantirna College has been a vibrant period for the Connect program, showcasing the students' dedication and collaborative spirit through various hands-on learning activities. The Connect groups have made significant strides in enhancing the school environment, engaging in creative projects that have improved the school grounds and promoted a sense of community and inclusivity.

One of the standout projects this term has been the transformation of the Wellbeing Stairs. These stairs have been given a vibrant makeover, now enhanced in a rainbow of colours that brighten the space and symbolise the school's commitment to mental health and wellbeing. This visual uplift is a daily reminder of positivity and support for all students and staff.

Another impactful initiative has been painting the stairs around the school to aid those with visual impairments. This thoughtful project demonstrates the Connect program's commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that our school is accessible and welcoming to all students, staff, and visitors.

A noteworthy moment was when the Connect students partnered with the VM students to complete a relaxing decking area and initiate the development of a new garden. This garden, set to be completed early in Term 3, promises to be a serene spot for our senior students to unwind and connect with nature.

The Connect group has also contributed to the school's natural beauty and environment by installing new garden beds outside the learning support rooms. We have also seen some creative input into the Koori Garden, which is beginning to take shape. This garden symbolises the unity and respect within our school community.

In addition, some of the old lockers have been rejuvenated, giving them a new lease on life and showcasing the students' ability to innovate and recycle.

On Tuesday, a BBQ lunch was held to celebrate the hard work and dedication of all involved. This event brought together students and staff from all groups, allowing them to reflect on their achievements and enjoy a well-deserved break.

The growth and success of the Connect program this term have been truly exciting, and we are looking forward to seeing what Term 3 will bring. The enthusiasm and teamwork displayed by the students are a testament to the positive impact of hands-on learning and community involvement at Wantirna College.
