Reader's Notes
This edition, I interviewed Ms Piritidis one of our wonderful English Teachers who teaches VCE and Year 9-10 English Elective classes,. She is a creative and passionate teacher.
What book are you currently reading, or read last?
I have just finished 'The Reappearance of Rachel Price' by Holly Jackson. I love Holly Jackson's Good Girl's Guide series but this one missed the mark.
What was your favourite book as a kid?
I wrote an essay about books that shaped me as a reader when in uni, I didn't realise it at the time but I was always drawn to young girl's with magical powers. Matilda by Roald Dahl and Ink Heart by Cornelia Funke were in heavy rotation. Jinx by Meg Cabot and Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan. Females that overcome hardship through strength and determination.
If you were stuck on a desert island, and were told that your only entertainment was an unlimited supply of books, but they had to remain in the same genre, what genre would you pick and why?
(This one is so hard to answer!) I always love a good murder mystery. Whether they are good or bad, I always find comfort in a twisted tale with lots of red herrings. I feel like I constantly chase the fear factor.
What book have you been putting off to read, or is next on your TBR?
I have a collection of Australian short stories called Begin, End, Begin that I am excited to get stuck into. AND it features Amie Kaufman, who I LOVE!
If you were prime minister and had to mandate a specific book that was compulsory for all of Australia to read, what book would you choose?
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I just LOVE this book. It has so much heart and soul. It is so well written. I cried three times, and I am happy to admit it!
What book trope automatically makes you slam a book closed to never be reopened again?
I'm not a fan of romantic relationships that come out of nowhere. It is important to me that character's relationships are progressive across the text.
