Student Learning

Foundation

Foundation students made caterpillars which taught them the order of the days of the week.

In reading and writing the students have been learning about non fiction books. They made their own books on bears and learnt lots of new facts about black bears, polar and panda bears.

Students enjoyed making their mindfulness calm jars as part of The Resilience Project lessons. They have been putting the jars to good use in class.

 Year 1/2

Reading: During second work time,  the students are focusing on their reading goals. Each student completes an activity tailored to their own reading goal.

Writing: We were so impressed with the information reports the students produced. Each report featured a labeled picture, habitat details,  interesting facts, diet information and a description of their chosen animal. The students celebrated their writing by sharing their report with their peers in the 1 /2 area.

Maths: The students have been working on telling the time, specifically learning about 'quarter past' and "quarter to.'  They made their own clock to demonstrate their understanding.

TRP:  The room was filled with smiles as the students enjoyed creating their own mindfulness calm down jar. These jars are now kept in the classroom, ready to help the students during mindfulness to settle their emotions.

Year 3/4

Fantastic math work, students engaged in an applying lesson where they demonstrated numerous ways of working out a problem

Lions Club Junior Public Speaking: It was a fantastic turn out by the grade 3/4 students, 15 in total! Stepping up and presenting their 3 min speech in front of peers, parents and teachers. They spoke beautifully with excellent content. The competition was tight with only a few points separating them. They worked hard writing their speech with the topic 'Who is your favourite book character and what would you say to them if you could meet them' We had every thing from Hermione, Simba to the White Rabbit. We are so proud of everyone's effort but would like to announce that our winner was Marchello and runner up was Cruze. Marchello and Cruze will now compete against other schools on Friday evening. We will keep you all posted with their progress, good luck boys!

Art: 3/4 students have been practising their printing skills!

Students in 3/4 have also made some abstract bicycle pictures to tie in with their Bike Ed classes.

Year 5/6

Art: 5/6 students exploring value by creating tints and shapes for a cityscape painting.

Winter Sport: The 5/6s are nearing the end of their 2024 Winter Sports campaign. Last week, we played our second last game of the season and it was against St Joseph’s Cobram.

CPS hosted St Joes, competing against them in all four sports which were Football, Netball, Softball and Soccer.

The football was a brilliant contest as St Joes came out firing with the early lead. To our credit, we fought back and played it out right until the last minute of the game to only go down by 4 points!

The Softball was a thrilling contest that went down to the wire. Cobram Primary taking the victory by only 1 run!

In the Soccer, St Joes got out to an early two goal lead however some brilliant team efforts from CPS saw us kick two goals to level the score late. Special mention to Vishnu who kicked both goals!

The year 5 netball team showed great spirit and were able to tie against St Joes with the score finishing 6-6. St Joes were too strong in the year 6 division taking out the win comfortably.

This week, we play our final game which is an away game against St Francis. A big thank you to all the parents who have made an effort to come along and support. We appreciate it greatly!
