Acting Principal's Report

Speaking Fluent P.S.

At Beaumaris North Primary School, we understand the importance of a unified approach to learning and development. By sharing a common language between school and home, we can create a seamless environment that supports our students in all aspects of their growth.

One effective tool we use is the Learner Profile, which not only guides our educational practices but also serves as a valuable resource for parents to reinforce positive behaviours and address unsuitable ones at home.

"The limits of my language mean the limits of my world." - Ludwig Wittgenstein

Wittgenstein, an early 20th century philosopher, highlights the significance of a shared language in expanding our children's horizons. When we speak the same language both at school and home, we can provide consistent messages that reinforce our values and expectations, helping children to internalize and practice these principles in their daily lives.

The Learner Profile: A Common Language for Growth

The IB Learner Profile consists of key attributes we strive to cultivate in our students. These attributes include being inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. By integrating these traits into our conversations and interactions, we can create a coherent framework that supports our students' development.

It can work at home as well:

  • Risk-takers try the broccoli when the potato chips seem far safer.
  • Great communicators calmly use their words.
  • Children who can look back and own their behaviours could be called: Reflective.
  • A little less screen time and a little more book reading might be a more balanced approach to a wet weekend at home.
  • If someone is struggling with honesty or ownership, then telling the truth would be a great example of being principled.
  • Caring for our siblings, our pets, or particularly our parents / grandparents, is always worth rewarding.

When we use the same terms here at BNPS we start to build a bridge between behaviours at home and those that we see here.  For some our developing young minds it can help develop a greater sense of how home and school are just different versions of the one community.

I can only encourage you to speak more P.S. at home.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Parents & Friends who organized and managed the successful Sausage Sizzle over the weekend. The remarkable profit of $4,122 is greatly valued by our school community. It was truly heartwarming to witness such a strong turnout from numerous families in support of this fundraising event.

Once the committee decides how this money will be allocated, I will inform you.

Lego Club

This term at BNPS we have implemented a dedicated Lego Therapy program, known as Lego Club which is run by Bonney Lewis.

This unique therapy program, known as Lego therapy, provides a fun and engaging environment for students to develop social skills, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork.

Lego Club meets every Tuesday and Wednesday, offering students the opportunity to build, create, and connect with their peers. Through the power of Lego bricks, students learn to communicate, cooperate, and negotiate, fostering a sense of belonging and self-confidence.
