Prep students have finished off Term 2 with some work on notation, rhythm and melody. They started learning about quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests and practiced them by playing fruit names as rhythms. The preps were very impressive with their ability to follow and clap rhythms accurately! They also had a go at playing some short melodies on the chime bars, turning some 'tas' and 'titis' into songs such as 'Rain, Rain, Go Away' and other well known nursery rhymes.
Grade 5/6s finished off Term 2 with a unit on the keyboard. They covered note names, melodies, chords and chord progressions. Students demonstrated skills in both playing in groups and individually. They were able to learn to play songs such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, You Are My Sunshine, Happy Birthday, and even music from movies such as Harry Potter and Star Wars.
Grade 1/2s have finished off Term 2 with some drama work. They learnt about using facial expression, voice and body language to convey character and character and situation, and were able to use these skills to act out some scenes from 'fixed fairytales' - alternate versions of famous stories such as Humpty Dumpty, Little Red Riding Hood, and The Three Little Pigs.
Grade 3/4s finished off their unit on the ukulele. All their work on learning the notes of the ukulele, notes on the stave, chords, and chord progressions culminated in them working in small groups to learn a pop song together. Their focus was on playing in time together and changing chords smoothly. Some groups were even able to sing while playing - not an easy skill to master!
