Year 6 Report
Term 2
Well done to all students who competed at Gala Day! It was great to see the amazing sportsmanship our students share with their peers.
Literacy
In Literacy, students have been exploring mystery texts and have been learning to identify and incorporate various features such as descriptive language and foreshadowing. Students have followed the 5 stages of writing while exploring their imagination to create their very own mystery stories. We are so proud of the stories that have been created! These mystery stories include crime, clues, alibis and character motivation.
In Reading, students have explored and applied their comprehension skills for a range of skills such as visualising, text connections, synthesising, inferring, analysing and critiquing.
Numeracy
In Numeracy students have been developing their fraction and decimal knowledge. This unit was explored through the link of money, length and time. Students worked on making equivalent fraction families, simplifying fractions by dividing and adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions. Students also explore data, probability and algebra concepts. Students completed a challenging maths tasks that required them to apply their knowledge of data to real world situations.
Inquiry
During Inquiry in Semester 1, students explored the difference between needs and wants while identifying influences on consumer choices. They have considered strategies that can be used to help make informed personal consumer and financial choices. Students have been working hard to organise their market stalls. They will have the opportunity to share their new findings when they host their own market still on Tuesday the 25th of June!
Social and Emotional Learning
Students have been building upon their courage to apologise when making mistakes. Students have had rich conversations about choices they can make and how it can impact those around them. Students have been investigating the importance of having a growth mindset in and out of the classroom and have explored concept of positive and negative self-talk.
