Dear Parents and Carers,

You may have noticed that Christmas has started a little early here at Mother Teresa! Our students this week were greeted with the signs that Advent is upon us with a Nativity scene set up up in the prayer space along with the use of the purple cloth on our crucifix and lectern. We also have Advent wreaths in each learning space, where after each Monday prayer, each level will receive the week's candle to add to their wreath over the next few weeks.
Our students have also started learning about Advent in their classes, exploring its meaning, symbols, and the signs. Students are beginning to reflect this special season as students prepare their hearts for the coming of Jesus. We teach our students that advent is a time of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. We look forward to journeying through Advent with our students and families, please feel free to join us in prayer next Monday, when we will light the Peace candle.

Over the coming Mondays, our students will have the opportunity to take part in Step-Up Program as part of our transition for the 2026 school year. These sessions are designed to help students feel confident, prepared, and excited as they move into their new year levels.
Students will attend 'Step-Up Mornings' on the following dates:

On these mornings, students will spend time in their 2026 classrooms, meeting their teacher and peers. The purpose of the 'step up' or Orientation day programs is for students to have the opportunity to engage in activities to learn more about each other, and pass on information about themselves to their classroom teacher. The teachers will also give the students time to become familiar with routines and expectations of their new classrooms. This gentle transition helps to reduce beginning of year anxiety and supports a smooth, positive start to the new school year.
Each child will come home on Monday afternoon with a Meet the Teacher letter which will indicate which teacher and class your child will be in for the 2026 school year. As I wrote about last year, I ask the staff to consider the phrase “Directors of First Impressions.” What I mean by this is for us, as staff, to consider just how important it is to develop a positive relationship with the students within their class and care. So too, as parents and caregivers, I ask that you be mindful of your role as a Director of First Impressions when your child/ren discuss their class placement with you. Your own reaction, expression and comments, be they positive or negative, will have a lasting impression on your child/ren’s attitude to the coming school year. Let’s together, make the coming year a fantastic experience for our child/ren, our students, by working together, supporting each other, and surprising not only them but ourselves in bringing out the best in each other.
God Bless,
Jess
