Teaching & Learning at Keysborough Secondary College
As we reach the end of 2025, I want to thank families for their ongoing support this year. We have made some important steps forward to ensure that every student at Keysborough Secondary College receives a high-quality education, in an environment where they can feel supported to thrive while experiencing success.
Throughout this year, the Teaching and Learning Improvement team have continued to strengthen teaching practices across the College by fully implementing the College Instructional Model. This has helped create greater consistency across all classrooms, with clearer learning expectations, and more engaging lessons—ensuring students know what they are learning, why it matters, and how to succeed. Our strong AToSS and Parent Opinion Survey results show that students and families are feeling this impact.
Teachers have also worked closely in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to refine curriculum, improve assessment practices, and share strategies that support every learner. This collaborative work directly benefits your child by ensuring they experience well-planned lessons, targeted support, and a curriculum that reflects high expectations for all.
Looking ahead, 2026 will bring several exciting developments designed to further enhance your child’s learning experience. We are introducing a new reporting format that will give families clearer, more meaningful information about student learning behaviours and achievement. Our partnership with Gippsland Community College will expand the applied learning opportunities for students who thrive in vocational or hands-on learning pathways. We are also expanding our onsite VET programs through the Vocational Centre at the Banksia Campus, allowing students to access to industry-aligned training without having to leave our school community.
As we move into the holiday break, a reminder to all families to purchase the required textbooks and learning materials so that students can begin the new school year fully prepared on Thursday 29th January 2026. Being organised early ensures a smooth and successful start for every learner.
For families of VCE Unit 1 and Unit 3 students, please ensure your child completes all the assigned holiday homework. This preparation will be essential, as students will be required to complete a VCE verification assessment task early in Term 1.
Everything we do at Keysborough Secondary College is centred on one commitment: providing the very best education for your child—one where they feel supported, challenged, and confident in their ability to succeed. We look forward to continuing this work in 2026 and partnering with you to ensure every student achieves their personal best.
Semester 2 reports
Semester 2 reports will be available to families through your child’s Compass portal on Tuesday 9th December.
Student reports provide a valuable insight into your child’s progress and achievement. They are an essential tool for parents, guardians, and students to understand how learning is developing across the Victorian Curriculum F–10 achievement standards and, for senior students, against the expected outcomes of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE and VCE-VM) pathways.
When interpreting your child’s report, it is important to understand the Achievement standards:
- A student assessed as "At Standard" is achieving the level of knowledge, skills, and behaviours expected for the end of the reporting period.
- A student assessed as "Above Standard" demonstrates knowledge and skills 6 months or more beyond what is expected at that stage of learning.
- A student assessed as "Working Toward" may still be making significant progress, but has not yet fully met the expectations for their year level.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to review the Semester 2 report with their child and take the time to:
- Celebrate achievements and progress made so far this year.
- Discuss any areas for improvement with a focus on growth, not just grades.
Set realistic goals and strategies to support continued success.
Reflecting on feedback is an essential part of every child’s learning journey. If you need support accessing the report, would like help understanding the results, or would appreciate advice on how to best support your child moving forward, please contact your child’s Year Level Leader.
More information can be found on the College Assessment and Reporting policy located on the College website.
Thank you for partnering with us to support your child’s individual learning progress.
