Tales From Teaching & Learning

Hello families,

Positive data trends

What a phenomenal year it has been at KPS! So many amazing achievements right across the school, both individually and cohort wide. Our teaching and support team has worked tirelessly to grow and stretch every learner, recognising that goals, success and progress can look different. As we draw towards the end of the school year, our final assessment data sets are coming through, and loud and clear the message is that there has been substantial growth in all areas of the curriculum.

The images below show some of the data sets that we have seen coming through in our reading assessments at our three check points across the year. The red indicates well below, yellow - below, green - at benchmark and blue - well above benchmark.

The next data sets show Maths growth from 2024 to 2025. As you can see there has been substantial growth over the year, which is extremely positive, however we need to keep working hard to maintain this level of achievement.

End of year reports

It has been a pleasure to proofread our Semester 2 reports and an absolute highlight has been the student’s reflective comments in Years 3-6. Their honesty about the areas they would like to work on, both academically and behaviourally, shows that they are very aware of themselves and confident to identify their next area of learning. It is also a highlight to read the events and areas of learning that have stood out for them. Our novel studies have been hugely successful in our upper years, our specialist programs are widely mentioned and challenging areas in Maths have been regularly commented on, along with an aspiring novelist in our ranks!

Next year

Next year we will continue the learning momentum. We will raise the bar again for everyone, provide support where needed and stretch to extend our student’s knowledge and understanding in all areas of the curriculum. We ask that you continue to partner with us by encouraging your child to practise their number facts on Numbots or MathFact Lab and that you engage in any of the extra practise activities we may share linked to reading and spelling. Additional practise helps our students master the areas that they are finding more challenging and just a little bit of time spent at home on these activities can go a long way. We also ask that if we are contacting you regarding a concern we have about the progress your child is making, that you work alongside us and investigate anything that may be hampering their growth. All the evidence tells us that the earlier we can intervene and provide support, the more likely we are to have a positive impact.
